Their looks and most of their body is down to good luck genetics and being paid to look good. Most people that go to the gym don't end up looking like models.

Encouraging others to acheive optimum health is worthy.

Wearing a swimsuit isn't debasing.

If a gym wants to up female membership, they should use women who have good bodies, anyone handing out leaflets is usually ignored, it's really difficult to ignore someone good looking in swimwear, even if you aren't sexually attracted to them.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 24/05/2015 15:35

Of course it's an unreasonable term to use in any context Confused

It has a whole bunch of value judgements going on which attack individuals who are trying to do whatever it is to get on or by in the world, and turns a blind eye to the structures that require people to do that.

"unworthy motives" wtf

Is it OK to debase yourself for worthy motives then? Trying to get people to join a gym could be argued as a worthy thing to do, after all.

Birdsgottafly · 24/05/2015 15:36

And your being deliberately obtuse about the definition of "whoring".

Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 15:36

Someone over weight is not going to sell membership for a gym.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 24/05/2015 15:38

Even if someone is selling sex, calling them a whore is still an appalling thing to do, mired as it is in a load of history and judgement.

If someone is selling sex in order to get money to pay their mortgage or pay for something for their kids is that "unworthy"? In your opinion.

OP I find your posts weird. But kind of interesting.

agentEgypt · 24/05/2015 15:43

I did not call them whores!

They were not selling a healthy lifestyle or advocating the benefits of exercise. Just tits and teeth in swimwear on the high street to get attention.

They all looked underweight and half starved to me with little energy to exersise. They did not have toned athletic bodies, just skinny.

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 24/05/2015 15:47

You did. What did you think 'whoring' implied? Hmm

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 24/05/2015 15:48

I find this thread bizarre because I would hate to see this on the high street but for totally different reasons to the OP, whose comments I find really incredibly nasty and sexist.

Why are you angry with the models rather than the company who hired them, or the people who came up with the idea for the campaign? Or with a media who objectify women, or with a society who soaks up that objectification and rarely bats an eyelid?

I don't understand why you are so angry with the models themselves Confused your comments about them are just vile.

Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 15:48

Hmm you sound a bit jealous.

They won't be using emaciated girls. Sports models are very different to fashion models.

Mintyy · 24/05/2015 15:49

Yanbu at all op. Totally get where you're coming from.

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2015 15:50

Are you sure they were swimming costumes and not this sort of thing?

"Just tits and teeth in swimwear on the high street to get attention."

No, that's what you saw and gleaned from them, all together, it speaks volumes about you.

hossenfeffer · 24/05/2015 15:53

One only has to look at porn or predatory to see that this isn't work. It's exploitation. They're not selling cars they're selling sex and sex is only about twenty years viable. Then what?

Young women should be proud of their gift to the future: as should young men with their prowess.

Just thinking about my job. Is a job handing leaflets in the streets in a bikini for me?

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 15:54

They are not hurting anyone else. I can't see the problem

Are women who use their bodies not hurting anyone else?

Good question - are they part of the "objectification of women" industry which is everywhere - women are judged by their looks and "sex sells" - or are they just doing what they can do to pay the bills?

I think that women who use their body to sell things are contributing to the objectification of women. I can see why they do it - but I do judge them.Just like grid girls, booth babes etc etc. They have a body that men want to see. But it's part of the cycle.

I don't blame them - but it's the whole culture of female objectification and the effect it has on how women are seen and judged.

agentEgypt · 24/05/2015 15:55

Where did I say I'm only angry with the models themselves?

I'm talking about them the most as they are the only visible presence of this promotion.

Me sexist how?

OP posts:
Coastingit · 24/05/2015 15:55

'Whoring' themselves?

What, for standing around wearing swimwear? To advertise a gym? To make people think wow she has a great bod, maybe I should sign up and get to grips with my own body, of look she's smiley and friendly too, I'll go and chat to her about membership whilst admiring her fab body.

Or is she gyrating in a sexual manner looking for paying customers to fuck?

Not wearing many clothes, or being young and female and attractive, isn't 'whoring'. As someone else said, having someone unattractive and overweight handing out flyers would not make much sense!

You do sound jealous and you are insulting their bodies and their motivations to make you feel better, it's a bit sad really.

Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 15:57

I think it's relative to what they are selling.

Girls/ men in skimpy gym gear selling gym membership.

Families trying out new sofas for sofa avert.

Thay are in context for what the are selling

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2015 15:57

hossenfeffer lots of good looking people do promotion work to see themselves through university etc.

So being viable for twenty years wouldn't come into it for them.

Coastingit · 24/05/2015 15:57

They're advertising a gym, somewhere people go to improve their bodies, seeking the sort of perfection these models presumably embody.

So it's a bit disingenuous to compare them to models on car adverts.

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 15:57

I'll go and chat to her about membership whilst admiring her fab body

Who do you think the target audience are?

Men or women?

I suspect it's probably men. I would find it interesting to know if they were gym employees or if they were sourced by an agency based on appearance.

agentEgypt · 24/05/2015 15:58

Only commenting on their bodies as they didnt have athletic gym bodies.

OP posts:
Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 15:58

The whoring comment just makes you sound nasty

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 15:59

Girls/ men in skimpy gym gear selling gym membership

So why weren't there men there in skimpy gear?

Men saying - wow, what a great body, I must join that gym?

agentEgypt · 24/05/2015 15:59

But they weren't in gym gear, they were in swimwear. Big flaw in that argument.

OP posts:
Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 15:59

What gym was it for so I can google and see
