to hate models in swimwear on the streets advertising gym membership

Their looks and most of their body is down to good luck genetics and being paid to look good. Most people that go to the gym don't end up looking like models.

OP posts:
Coastingit · 24/05/2015 15:59

Orlando I'm sure they were sourced from a promos company. As models.

I just can't get upset about people with great bodies being employed to advertise a business based on having great bodies!

What do you want - hair ads with people with shit hair?

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2015 16:01

Yes, what gym was it OP?

Coastingit · 24/05/2015 16:01

I use Herbal Essences and my hair doesn't look anything like that Brazilian model in the advert Sad I bet she doesn't even use the shampoo.

It's advertising...

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 16:02

TBH - it's probably intimidating. People feel uncomfortable enough going to a gym anyway and implying it's full of people with superb bodies might put people off for thinking they don't fit in.

If you hate your body and worry about it, the last thing you want to do is go to a place full of people with the "great body we all aspire to"

Coastingit · 24/05/2015 16:03

Confused Why would the gym employ them if it didn't make business sense?

I'm intimidated by the sales assistants in my local LK Bennett. But I know they are employed and trained to be snooty and intimidating - it helps the brand.

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 16:04

So you go and chat to the sourced model.

"What do you think of this gym?"

Oh, I don't go there. I just got hired to hand out leaflets because I look good.

hossenfeffer · 24/05/2015 16:05

Worra. University is supposed to be about intellectual development not propping one's self up by dancing in the club.

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 24/05/2015 16:07

Coasting I never realised that shops where the people are all like that, it's on purpose.

I feel a bit dim now you've pointed it out it's quite obvious Grin

Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 16:07

Yes but it shows that after a hard day of brain working out, you can let your hair down and PARTAAAY!!! It's a winner!

YouTheCat · 24/05/2015 16:08

Gyms do have a fair few people in them with excellent bodies that they have worked hard to achieve but there are a lot of people in them who look like me too. I don't find it intimidating to go there with my podgy, shortarsed body. I'm not very confident but neither am I put off by other people.

hossenfeffer · 24/05/2015 16:09

It's not about the gorgeous hair it's about the propaganda.

agentEgypt · 24/05/2015 16:10

They were clearly not targeting any women. I think they would probably intimidate women from going to the gym. As wolf says.

Fair enough they probably earnt 200-300 for that day and they were all young. But clearly the only thing they were there to do is get male attention.

Their bodies and looks are down to genes, being young and probably not eating for a few days before hand as they knew they had this job coming up.

This makes no sense whatsoever in relation to my reply to your post at
15:53:33.

You spoke about viability after 20yrs and said, "Young women should be proud of their gift to the future: as should young men with their prowess."

You sound as though you're assuming that people who do promotion work, have nothing in the pipeline for the future.

It's not always the case as many are paying their way through uni etc.

No different to waiting on tables except the pay is probably much better.

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 16:14

Promotion work..

Ever been in a town when they hand out leaflets for night clubs.
The leaflets are littered with images of young, scantily clad women. Rare to see men on them.
The leaflets are handed out by young, attractive, slim women. I have never seen a man hand them out.

I wonder why that is? I wonder why the leaflets feature women on them.

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2015 16:15

Ridiculously sweeping statement there OP.

You have no idea about their exercise routines or their eating habits.

You really do sound quite bitter I'm afraid. I thought the whoring and 'tits and teeth' comments made you sound like that earlier, but with every post you just seem to come across as more and more envious.

Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 16:15

What gym is if for op again

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2015 16:18

OrlandoWoolf

I don't know where you live but here in London, the nightclubs are crying out to get more females in because there are always more male customers than women.

Therefore most of the promotion people giving out leaflets are good looking males, handing them to women on the streets.

It's also been the same whenever I've gone to Spain, Portugal and Italy.

There's no point in handing women leaflets with images of scantily clad women on them, when it's women they're trying to get through the doors.

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 16:19

In York.

Always females handing them out.

AuntyMag10 · 24/05/2015 16:20

Agent you sound very jealous.

Birdsgottafly · 24/05/2015 16:20

Are women on Make Up counters "whoring themselves"? and dragging us all down with them?

My middle DD does occasional promotion work, it's a temporary job, better paid than a shift in a pub, or cleaning.

She hadn't chosen a career yet, ridiculous to say that the young women doing this work need educating about where they'll be in twenty years time.

You can be beautiful, enjoy your attractiveness and have brains and be well informed about everyday sexism and Feminism.

Tequilashotfor1 · 24/05/2015 16:21

orlando have you ever been out side the hollister shop when the young male make models are standing out side it? Six pack, tanned and dressed in only shorts???

I know plenty of promo lads. I also know two who dress up in just a dicky bow and pinny and serve cocktails at hen parties.

OrlandoWoolf · 24/05/2015 16:23

Don't see that up here.

Maybe Yorkshire lads wouldn't do that kind of thing Grin

hossenfeffer · 24/05/2015 16:29

Worra, I take on board what you say however I fully endorse the point of university.

Education is a right in a developed democracy.

Using perceived pretty girls to sell is beyond reality and, therefore, abusive.

WorraLiberty · 24/05/2015 16:30

Butlers in the buff have a branch in Yorkshire Wink

MrsTedCrilly · 24/05/2015 16:31

When I go the gym and become dedicated plus healthy diet I look fantastic, it takes work though. These girls might never have set foot in a gym before but you can still end up looking as good as them if you want to.
