... about the mince?

Spouse cooking. Agreed that he'd make moussaka - a dish he's made many times before and which everyone likes. Much faffing about with shopping lists, recipe books. I direct him to the correct recipe book. He eventually disappears to the shops, then returns.

I find a packet of beef mince left on the table and say, 'Oh did you change your mind? (Assuming he had decided to suddenly make spaghetti bolognese instead.)

He says, 'What do you mean?'

I say 'That's beef mince.'

'No it isn't.'

'Yes it is.'

'But it came from the section with the lamb mince.'

'Possibly it did. But it says beef on the label. And the labelling on beef is always different colour. And you can't take it back.'

We have now have 2lbs of beef mince. (1lb already in freezer) and no lamb, I feel vaguely aggrieved

We both prefer moussaka made with lamb, and were planning on this as a special Bank Holiday dinner.

My partner is quite absent-minded so if meat's been put in the wrong bit of the supermarket chiller cabinet, he is quite likely not to notice. But he was cross with himself

I think he genuinely had never noticed before that supermarkets colour-code meat labels - and found that a useful bit of information.

My dh would do the same but then he'd never know where to start with cooking anything like that. He only cooks chicken. Supermarket once substituted my lean mince for mince that mixed pork and beef - who eats that? The fat content was obscene.

I've noticed a lot of threads where someone is accused of being patronising - is that the new in thing on mn? I was trying to be helpful the other day and was accused of it by the op. I couldn't work out what I'd said that was patronising as I intended to be on the op's side... anyway, back to mince.
