to be fed up with not on the high street

Bought 3 personalised products from not on the high street this week. 2 are great, but the 3rd a jigsaw based on front page of the times is dreadful. Cannot read the writing on picture so impossible to make jigsaw, cost Inc delivery 39.90.
Contacted not on the high street , been told as it's personalised. , based on DH date of birthday, it's tough luck,. Grrr
Still think they should refund my money.

It's the individual seller, not Not on the High Street that's at fault. If the item's not as described, you should be able to get your money back.

I think they should too- under sale of goods act or something, goods should be of satisfactory quality. If it's meant to be a front page and you can't read it, that's not satisfactory quality. As far as I know, the act applies to personalised goods as well.

If you'd simply changed your kind and decided you didn't want it, then they'd be in their rights to refuse.

Have you taken a photo and shown them how poor it is? And ensured they realise the problem is the quality of the product, not the product itself?

They requested a photo which I sent , but was then told that they couldn't read the writing . Exactly , either can we , it way too smaller and the print quality is terrible. They then asked me to send it on a larger file .....I do not have a computer dept I can just refer this to. Feel like I have been scammed.

Even personalised items need to be of satisfactory quality. Might be worth explaining to NOTHS again in case they've misunderstood and thought you just want to change your mind.

Either way, as the retailer, they're responsible for putting things right, not whoever made the thing.

Have been told they will contact the people who made the jigsaw for their opinion, but of course they will say it is fine, after all they made it, and made 39.90 out of me !

NOHS seem to think it is nothing to do with them, it's between me and the producer. But I bought it through their website, which I expected to have checked quality of its products

Not necessarily. I ordered a personalised spoon and when it arrived I wasn't happy with the spacing of the letters. I contacted the company who sold it, sent photos and they agreed it fell short of their usual standards. Apologised profusely and re-made it.

It may be a one off

errr person who made it gets a whole lot less than 39.90 I assure you. But you are right it is not good enough quality given what you said - check out your rights and quote the law at them re reasonable quality. You need to read T&Cs as to who contract is with. I would say it should be NOTHS but may be wrong

Just to say that Not On The High Street isn't all it's cracked up to be.. Some piss poor delivery times and an order "disappeared" ... Might look individualistic but items can be bought from eBay or even Amazon for less.. Overhyped and underwhelming.. We've all moved on from words written on a plate , a tile or a piece of canvas

They should deal with it, but it might be easier to go direct to the seller as that will cut out the middle-person. The DSRs (or whatever the updated versions of them are now) do make provision for personalised items, but this doesn't preclude the product from being of a reasonable quality, so you should be able to get a refund or replacement if it is shit.

If you can't send them a larger photo, could you place something else in the photo frame to show it's not the photo that's at fault? Thinking along the lines of a newspaper, then if they can read he newspaper but not the jigsaw, it's clear the jigsaw is at fault.

I would have thought you need to deal with noths, after all if you buy something from tesco and want a refund, you don't go to the manufacturer. Somewhere like eBay is slightly different, as you pay your money direct to the seller and it is made clear that you are not actually buying from eBay. Noths seems to be more like a supermarket, I didn't even know till this thread that they have sellers.

Whenever I see something I like in nohs I always google it and quite frequently find it elsewhere but cheaper.

Anyway, trading standards, definitely.

Consumer rights would say the seller, I.e. NOTHS, is responsible, not the manufacturer. It should be of a reasonablw quality and fit for purpose, which it isn't.

It is sh1t , to make a jigsaw you have to be able to see / read picture / writing, not possible with this product . But whoever dispatched it knew that, unfortunately by then they had my money .
The person making it may not have got the 39.90 but as someone in a low paid job i don't take feeling ripped off lightly. Nohs customer service seems to be about shrugging their shoulders, saying nothing to do with us.

Did you make the agreement with NOHS and send payment to them? If so, it they who are responsible. Whether the item is personalised or not, it has to be fit for its purpose and I would have said an illegible picture and a jigsaw you cannot do are not fit for purpose.

But, note of caution there: are you sure you couldn't do the jigsaw? After all, some sadists produce jigsaws that are all one colour and similar. That's not to say that it is satisfactory that the jigsaw picture is a blurry mess, just that you shouldn't complain that the jigsaw is impossible to do unless that is definitely the case.

NOTHS is a useless company. We bought a gift for friends from their NOTHS gift list. After asking NOTHS to stop sending us junk mail about 5 times, I ended up reporting them to the Information Commissioner to get them to actually stop.

The jigsaw is a present based on a page of times newspaper. I haven't made it, but that would be impossible because for a start the picture of what it should look like is impossible to read , writing blurred and impossible to read as is the writing on the jigsaw pieces.shocked that someone thought this was acceptable to sell

icimoi I would say it's irrelevant in this case whether the jigsaw can physically be completed or not. As it was a personalised item, it's clear that it is the aesthetics of the picture that is important rather than the puzzle. Even if the jigsaw can be completed, it defeats the point of it being personalised if it's just a blurry mess!
