To want to know if the ruddy rail workers are striking or not?

Booked half term trip to London for DS, DN and me. Then heard about the proposed strike. Tried to cancel tickets but was told I had to wait until Monday to see if the strike goes ahead!

Anyone have any idea?

Virgin have cancelled all of their trains on Mon/Tues so I'm guessing they think it is fairly probable...

I have booked a hotel at Heathrow for Monday, hadn't booked train tickets yet.

AbsoluteGonk · 20/05/2015 19:24

Thanks - looks like I'll have to await the outcome of tomorrow's High Court action. I'm pissed off with the Unions for striking and the train company that won't refund my tickets today!

It's a pain in the arse, I was just about to book tickets when they announced it and can't go on another day.

trinitybleu · 20/05/2015 19:48

Virgin are refunding now with no admin fee. Who were you travelling with? I can ask at work for advice for you (business travel company)

RightSideOfWrong · 20/05/2015 19:53

It will happen. The major London train stations were refunding tickets today, for all train companies.

contractor6 · 20/05/2015 19:59

Virgin said will reinstate some services if the strike I cancelled. Surely all should be running. Also the union seems to have done this to cause max disruption, being across a bank holiday and work day.

Fluffyears · 20/05/2015 20:04

They are running a reduced timetable in some areas. I have 2 trains an hour rather than 3. I will be late to work in the morning but 5 minutes earlier getting home...bonus!

ilovesooty · 20/05/2015 20:04

There's little point in a strike if it doesn't cause maximum disruption.

Confusedfuzz · 20/05/2015 20:06

Yep dp is striking Monday and Tuesday

Koalafications · 20/05/2015 20:07

Yes, disruption to the service is the desired effect contractor

Magmatic80 · 20/05/2015 20:09

South Eastern striking Monday and Tuesday so work could be interesting on Tuesday.

bellbottomedtear · 20/05/2015 20:43

Yep it's going ahead dh works for tfl and has it confirmed with no change likely. Also s they do some signals for the underground that will be up the creak too

helenahandbag · 20/05/2015 20:47

Scotrail are refunding tickets now so it looks like it's going ahead. We could use train passes on the bus when First owned both but it was confirmed on Facebook that this is no longer the case so I'll be out of pocket for two days on top of my monthly train ticket Angry

youarekiddingme · 20/05/2015 20:48

I was driving along the motorway today and the lighted signs all said rail strike Monday/Tuesday.

All I kept thinking is its not motorway drivers who need informing!

RatPig · 20/05/2015 20:50

Rail strikes can and have been called off at the very last minute. In that case, workers are obliged to work and trains will run. Unfortunately there is no way ANYONE can know for certain either way at the moment.

contractor6 · 20/05/2015 20:59

I disagree, striking should be a way to express dissatisfaction, not hold the rest of us (who have no choice or control) to ransom.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2015 21:02

So what kind of effective strike action to "express dissatisfaction" can they take that causes no inconvenience to the public?

RatPig · 20/05/2015 21:03

Disagree with who / what, contractor ?

The bank holiday timing is deplorable, yet sadly predictable.

AbsoluteGonk · 20/05/2015 21:04

Trinity - DP booked the tickets for me with, I think, Hull trains (is there such a train company?).

I hate the Tories but hope they make striking when it inconveniences me illegal.

The following Twitter exchange made me titter:

Greater Anglia ?@greateranglia
#IndustrialAction The Social Media Team are currently unable to provide more info on which services will run

To which some smart arse replied

Hi @greateranglia how will we know the difference between your service during #IndustrialAction and your regular service?

Does anyone know if Eurotunnel will be affected? We are supposed to be going away on Tuesday.

Koalafications · 20/05/2015 22:44

I disagree, striking should be a way to express dissatisfaction, not hold the rest of us (who have no choice or control) to ransom.

Grin Confused Hmm

Really? If there is no impact to service a strike is pretty pointless.

sarascompact · 20/05/2015 22:49

Oh give that Tweeter a medal! As a regular sufferer of Greater Anglia trains I couldn't put it better myself.

To the strikers/potential strikers: You're a wanktastic nuisance and frankly I don't care about your pay-related dispute. I can't influence your rate of pay but you're going to do a bloody good job of screwing up mine. Believe me if I could influence what you get paid, you'd get minimum wage and a plastic button right now.
