My DH was home in the morning for the first time in ages. He was horrified as I told the DC to gargle with water before breakfast and then brush their teeth properly after brekkie.
He thinks it should be the other way round. I can't think of anything else of the top of my head at the mo but it seems like when he's home, everything is slightly "wrong" ie not the way he did/does or his parents did.
Obviously my rules are followed as I am with the kids lost of the time but AIBU?
Do you have any routines that seem strange to people?

DH insists teeth should be brushed after breakfast but I do mine as soon as I wake. (You shouldn't brush within 20 mins of eating sugar, fruit or fruit juice.)

We eat closer to bedtime than most, I think. We never did a 7-7 routine, or any routine with DD, which other people find hard to comprehend. I often let DD have a little something sweet before dinner - it seems to wake up her tastebuds.

I insist on breakfast before getting showered/ dressed. My friend finds this very weird.

DisappointedOne · 19/05/2015 11:19

I shower before doing anything else (except teeth).

Asked dentist this. Always brush before brekkie, then wait a while, the toothpaste helps protect. If you brush after, you are scrubbing the acids into the teeth. very bad. Always wait at least 30 mins after food before brushing.

I get up, brush teeth, feed dd (5 months) eat brekkie, get showered and changed.

DH was a SAHD for 3 years (until youngest DC was 16 months) and used to do things that annoyed me, as I would have done them differently. However, he was the one that had to spend the day with two under two, so I bit my tongue. Some days harder than others. If it was something that bothered me very very much and I had solid reasons (i.e. not "that's not how I do it") I'd discuss it at some point when it was just the two of us and calm.

My DH serves up a big cooked breakfast immediately before DS2's swimming lesson. I would never do that. But since he cooks the breakfast as takes DS2 to swimming, I can't really complain. (However, if DH is away, it is only cereal/toast and at least one hour earlier)

I don't eat until 2-6 hours after waking, so the toothpaste taste has usually worn off by then.

Thanks all, never thought of the brushing/sugar issue! Need to look at my routine.
Another thing is if he does the housework it's dust Hoover mop with me its Hoover dust Hoover mop. It's little things but interesting how others have their routines.

You hoover before you dust? That's a waste of energy!

I get up wash, brush teeth and then have breakfast. I then rebrush my teeth and moisturise and get changed.
DD6 has breakfast in bed, washed and brushes teeth and then changes clothes.

Grab school and work bags and we're ready to go.
DD6 doesn't have a set bedtime. We go to bed when everything (dinner, shower, homework, bedtime story etc) is done or when she's tired. She never goes to bed later than 8pm, which is probably shocking to most people but we don't get home until 5.30pm most days. And I've never had a problem with her being tired in the morning - she's bright eyed and ready to go at 6am!

Get up, have coffee, shower and brush teeth. Get kids up, ( they don't usually eat breakfast so I only make it if they ask) brush teeth, off to school.
I then have breakfast.
