AIBU to be fed up with smear test threads?

There seems to have been a run of smear test threads recently, encouraging women to get one done.

I'm sure we all know all about them. Can we drop the subject?

Thank you.

Yet again I agree with you RedToothbrush.

I understand and accept the concept that drug companies have to make money. Research and development is expensive and time consuming with the risk that a promising drug won't make it after billions have been spent.

I agree that those companies have to be able to make money for their shareholders through the use of patents, as long as they expire after a reasonable period of time.

I also realise that they spend money where they'll get the best return - that means more spending on drugs treating common Western afflictions and less on rare conditions and things affecting people in poor countries.

There was a story a few days ago about encouraging drug companies to invest in finding new antibiotics to counter resistance. I support the sentiment, as anyone who might scratch herself on a rusty nail while gardening or pick up MRSA in hospital, but I also get the economics of the head of Pfizer's accounting.

That said, the planting of sad stories and misinformation for Phil and Holly to emote over in an eight minute slot on This Morning by pharmaceutical multinationals is obscene.

I don't think smear tests make vast sums of money for shady multinationals.
