To quit after one day?

Basically, was offered a job on tues on basis of good trial. Agreed p/t hours, no more than 30 but ideally 20 as I have 2 DCs at school & a DH with a demanding job. Oh, and only one car! Had trial day on Friday, went well. They liked the way I work, and officially offered me the job. Only problem, they've upped the hours to 35 so pretty much f/t.
DH & I had put a plan into place with regards to lift to work/kids to school etc on the basis of me only working 3 days p/w. This is now 5 and unworkable for us.
Am I BU by quitting before I've even started? I'm grateful for the job esp as it's the first one in a while (SAHM) and don't want to come across as being awkward if I tell them I can only work half the days they need me to!

Not the least bit. They're the ones being awkward. If you want 20' they want 35, then job share sounds ideal

Don't think so Hun- if you agreed part time hours they should honour that, I work 2/3 days per week impossible for me to work more so I would leave to x

I think you should go in to discuss before handing in your notice formally. Express eagerness for the position as explain your situation. Perhaps you can work something out.

My DW once quit a job after 25 minutes because they suddenly added on more tasks than she had originally agreed to. YANBU.

If no more than 30 was agreed then they aren't offering what was agreed & you cannot take the offer.

How is that quitting when you haven't taken up the offer?

Thanks for replies.
Chazzer, in the interview I was told it would be a job share with me doing 3 days and other person doing 4. I found out after trial that the other person doesn't exist yet so I'm expected to fill in in the mean time! Ok so it won't (hopefully) be on a long term basis but even in the short term it's nigh on impossible! Annoyed!

I quit a job after day one; it was nothing like the job description and boring as hell. It was SO liberating to just leave something behind rather than go through weeks of angst.

I wonder whether they would also expect you to cover the job shares holiday and sickness too?
