How common is it to score level 6 in SATs? Do many kids manage this or just a few?

Good grief!! We are talking about 11 year olds? Do they do SATS in Scotland because my 16 year old never had any of this pressure at her school as far as I remember. I have no clue what level she was at at that age.

She took gcse maths a year early and got an A and is now doing A level maths. She found maths easy, she has a natural ability and loves it but A level is a whole new ball game and extremely intense and very difficult.

I don't think SATS are important to anyone except the school or if you want bragging rights. It's never going to mean anything in terms of getting a job in later life.

My 9 year old will not be pressurised by me when she has to do them.

Any idea when to find out the results do we ring the school?

SomewhereIBelong · 13/05/2015 11:53

the school may give them the results, they may put them in their end of year report, they might not ... no, don't ring the school - it is just a test

happy2bhomely,

The investigation team will be discreet. If they decide to investigate, they will interview other children. I doubt this is a single isolated instance.

If you make the call, you can ask about this sort of thing before you give any details.

RustyBear · 13/05/2015 12:41

Happy2bhomely - if you report, and the school is investigated, the name of the school may be reported in the press, so you may want to get your posts deleted to avoid being outed on MN

Thanks lilyb that's interesting.

pieceofpurplesky · 13/05/2015 16:17

Lily how did you see the moderator's marks - these should not be shared?
What I said was that level 5 kids have a flair that sometimes level 6s don't - when they get to GCSE level fakir makes the difference and by then their technical accuracy will be the same - of course some will have flair

happy i think you should just ask to speak to person in question and see what they say face to face. it would be enough to stop it. and may shed more light on it.

i would not start other balls rolling without speaking to person in question first

I didn't see the marks, but was told the feedback.

My dd2 was entered for level 6 maths ad has reluctantly attended booster classes. She has decided not to actually sit the level 6 paper and I'm glad. She is going to a very good local comp who don't bother with the SATs results anyway as they think they are generally inflated.

youarekiddingme · 14/05/2015 07:23

happy I'd also report. My DS has a scribe and reader and therefore does the test in another room. Those who have support do not do tests with others as not to disturb them. He gets his work transcribed (eg they write illegible sentences out legibly) so it is allowed to help them write it clearly but not usually under the circumstances you've described.
I feel for yiur DD - that's a horrid predicament to out a young child in - cheating. Even though your dd did no wrong she's still suffering the guild from it. Sad
