AIBU to donate my benefits to people worse off than myself, foodbanks, school breakfasts etc, disabled friends, local stories making papers when the shit hits the fan.

Now before anybody jumps on the idea that it must prove people don't need their money, this isn't the case.
I don't know anybody else in my position as it is quite unique and is due to multiple factors from being born when I was to the way I have lived my life, choices etc.

I decided not to leave the benefit unclaimed as it would only serve the fat cats and won't go to those who need it.
Unless the new gov scrap it of course/ change criteria it should still equal approx £75 per week. Obviously sometimes I will need to keep it if we have to pay for doctors etc.

So AIBU, and can anybody think of any other groups that may like donations.

DH always gives away his annual heating allowance to Age concern or local hospice.

Personally I just wouldn't claim it. We're entitled to DLA for my eldest child I believe but I won't claim it as we don't 'need' it.

YABVVU that benefit is for you. If you can afford to do that, than you don't need it.

Don't claim it, and let somebody who does need it have it.

I agree with pp who say you just shouldn't claim it ,my youngest dc is entitled to DLA and we just don't claim it as we dont ( fortunately) need it .

To be honest 75 quid is not exactly a huge amount. Can't you just spend it on vodka? Or donate it if that's what you wish. Either way it's not gonna make much of difference is it?

I would claim and set up DD to the local hospice, Shelter, the local homeless hostel, local women' refuge and maybe keep £10 to donate to another charity each week.

I'd avoid looking at Crowd funding or don't be fooled by the tricksters on there.

I think I would say if you dont need it then dont claim it. I got as far as filling in the DLA forms then thought ...fuck it I dont need the money, and was only putting it in as I had been nagged by other people that I was entiltled to it. Same as I gave up on my claim for JSA (or whatever it was called then)

Its your choice though, you may think you are doing better claiming then passing it on...I preferred the not answering to anyone

I think that, if you genuinely don't need it, you just shouldn't claim it.

But you wouldn't be unreasonable to claim it and give it away. Or to claim it and keep it.

I think if you don't need it you shouldn't claim it, but if you do and want to donate then don't make a song and dance.

Of course £75 is a lot of money. Hospices survive on lots of donations of varying amounts. Every penny counts.

If you don't claim dla for your child because you don't need it have you considering claiming and saving it for your disabled child's future . The money is for your child not for you and nothing is going to get easier for disabled people.
Also claiming dla is not just about money it is often used as " proof" of disability.

I don't think much of myself at all, and there are times we will need the money as we do now.
There is no fraud, it's completely legal and benefit to which we are entitled.
The nc is because of the nature of the proposal not that I am dealing in huge amounts and will make a big difference. But every little helps.

I did consider not claiming it anymore, but when we do need it I will have shot myself in the foot, so to speak. Plus, it won't go to those who need it as they are losing out.
Amongst others I aim to help a friend a sp who is disabled and will lose out/ has lost enough already.

We won't starve as we have workers in the family, but may well need it sometimes for prescriptions, nhs if we have to pay etc.

We are just not as poor as some and I would prefer to help people than save for a holiday or other luxury.

So some suggestions as to some places to donate, or save it to donate.

What about donating to some specific charities that help the disabled:

Dogs for the Disabled (and presumably most of the other assistant dog organisations are all charitable and rely on fundraising to train the dogs)

Children Today - Helping disabled children and young people live a life of greater freedom. Children Today provide grants for vital, life-changing equipment for children and young people with sickness and disability across the UK.

Then get on with it, it didn't need a thread. Lots of people give money quietly and without fanfare. Your posts sound very disingenuous.

You're not going to have to pay for a doctor. Don't be so hysterical.

And if you don't need it, don't claim it. Obviously. No one needs a one woman campaign to right the wrongs of the government .
