I voted Conservative, and am happy to admit it - why don't other Tory voters feel the same?

I voted Conservative, and am delighted with the election result. However no one else seems to admit to being a Tory voter, but there are clearly lots of us around. I told someone at work about my voting preferences - she looked at me as if I'd just killed a puppy.

DH commented that being left-wing is a more fashionable view, even if you don't agree with left-wing politics.

I think he has a point. And I get heartily sick of people who brag about being brought up on a council estate, holding it up as a badge of honour, assuming this gives more weight to their opinions than those of us who come from a different sort of background. It's some weird, inverted snobbery thing.

I totally agree with David Cameron's comments about wanting to ensure a good life for those of us who are prepared to work for it. What's so wrong with that????

I look forward with interest to what the new Government does. Until the Labour Party actually listens to people rather than 'the left' shouting down all opposing opinions with comments like 'you're racist' or whatever insult is preferred, I can't see then forming another Government any time soon

I'm looking forward to seeing what this Government does too. I'm also looking forward to seeing who labour elects as the new leader and how they will meet the challenge of trying to win the next election. You're absolutely right. Labour did not listen to voters and even MP's who did not want Ed Miliband and his extreme left wing policies.

Emme, I totally accept that. I love independent shops and not just the same old high street regardless of where you are.

However I am time poor, Amazon is so easy. A Starbucks or similar is easy although when I am in London I try to go to a non chain.

But I have to say that there are millions of people that for whatever do use these companies.

Rosa I do agree with that sentiment, but I think it goes a lot further afield than that.
As I said, I am only going by personal experience, so it may be completely different for others, but being out of work for so long with the kids, it doesn't matter what they would have taught me in school, that confidence is so easily 'knocked' when it comes down to it.

Somebody said in a previous thread that this is a form of gaslighting, and I'd agree.
There's a reason that it seems to be former Labour supporters going over to parties like UKIP and the BNP, and The Labour Party needs to take a good look at what those reasons are.
It can't simply be they're all racist bigots?
They have become disillusioned with Labour, so rather than shut them down they need to do something else.
It smacks a bit of George Orwell to be honest.
'All opinions are equal but...' And all that

Absolutely Timri.

I think many people on this forum don't admit it because they're quite
likely to get called names. MN is a very left wing place at times.

I voted Tory. Don't get me wrong I am not completely happy with them but they were the best option for me and here's why.
I am a farmer from a very rural part of the country. In paper I've got a lot of money (but not in cash - property).

The Tories tax regimes are better for me, they will hopefully bring back hunting , soon it also looks like we will all be able to shoot fecking badgers at long last so we can get on top of TB! They just seem to 'get'what my life is about more than labour or any of the others.
