I bet they don't give a flying monkeys for anyone coming under attack by the Tories. The poor, disabled and tennants.

I have felt close to tears all day because I know what a conservative majority means for so many in this country.

I'm a single parent, work for the NHS and voted Tory.

I work with low or no income families. I authorise food bank vouchers
I deal with housing
I'm on the frontline dealing with child poverty in a deprived area of a major city

I still voted Tory.

I didn't believe a word Ed Milliband said.
As a working single parent I get decent benefits
A high percentage of 'the poor' are not living in poverty. I see very few who have real need, maybe 10% max
The NHS was no better under labour, it's not sustainable due to our ageing population, inappropriate use and health tourism. Something needs to change. We are lucky however that at the point of emergency our healthcare is world class and that won't change under any government.

I agree with the bedroom tax, I have 3 dcs and 2 of them share, they don't need a bedroom each and I certainly don't need a spare room, and that's in a house I own, not social housing or housing I'm claiming benefits for.

I believe the Torys are doing a good job with the economy, more people are in work who want to work.

OTheHugeManatee · 09/05/2015 09:55

I don't have kids, high income, own home, private healthcare through work, so the conservative govt won't have a negative affect on me personally. But I have this nagging little thing called compassion and empathy for those less fortunate....apparently it's quite rare.

This is a blinding election result for you then. Your taxes will go down, the value of your house will go up, and meanwhile you can virtue-signal to your heart's content about how much more empathic and caring you are than everyone else because you hate the horrid Tories.

raawwhh · 09/05/2015 09:56

Oh my Lord. My face book feed is field by this angsty teenage crap as well.

FWIW I was set on voting Tory - the best of a bad bunch - so to speak. However, with the strong UKIP following in my area voted tactically for Labour as they had the stronger chance of beating UKIP and the thought of UKIP getting in power, as someone with a vagina, is unimaginably shit.

However, it wasn't something I wanted to do as Labours key vote wining policy would have destroyed the industry I work in and ended up with 1000s of people losing their jobs. It's a narrow sighted policy that anyone with an ounce of foresight can see the pit falls off but it looks shiny and I'm sure won them votes. I also think Millaband has the charisma of a flaccid penis and isn't someone suited to running the country.

Now, I'm off to eat babies/beat poor people or whatever else us Tory sympathisers do.

Charis1 · 09/05/2015 10:04

In all honesty, I would find it very hard to to go without hot water and central heating for any length of time. I think most people would

flippinada, that is because we are used to and expect a very high standard of living. striving for better all the time is part of human nature, but to a large part of the population, the "strive" part of that has become very much strive to make other people provide for them, rather than striving for themselves.

as far as starvation goes, yes of course it is something everyone wants to avoid, but we are talking about poverty, not the circumstances in which someone should be sectioned. There is actually no way you can prevent someone starving themselves to death, in the end, but that isn't related to poverty.

there are cases which are called "starvation" in the media, but something completely different in the coroners report, but I don't want to discuss specifics, as there might be family members who read this and might find the discussion upsetting.

BeaufortBelle · 09/05/2015 10:05

I voted tory. I care. I also expect the state to spend wisely - I spend wisely so don't understand why those in Westminster can't ensure those for whom they are responsible spend wisely. In 1997 labour introduced PCTs an additional layer of bureaucracy in the NHS which introduced thousands of additional managers and did not improve services - that was not wise spending.

Around me the NHS services have improved in the last five years. The conservatives need a big push on education now at every level and need to help schools to support the majority by funding more specialist places for those with significant behaviour issues and stop penalising schools for excluding those they can't manage.

mozzochipsthirty, excellent post.

maninawomansworld · 09/05/2015 10:06

I'm just sick of the lefties assuming the moral high ground and telling anyone who dares to do well and won't self flagellate themselves over it that they are a bad person.

DW and I work hard, have a fantastic home, 2 lovely kids and a bit of savings and both voted Tory.
They stand up for US and people like us. Their values most closely align with our own and they will protect our way of life better than any of the other parties!

We live in a democracy so all the moaners should just shut the fuck up and get over it. The MAJORITY of the country disagrees with you and seeing as we live in a democracy the majority rules.

Ha

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 09/05/2015 10:08

"We live in a democracy so shut the fuck up"

Queenofwands · 09/05/2015 10:09

Ohhuge. It's not a blinding election result for me at all. I was also born in a council house and was poor, and still have friends and family who are in that position. I also have a sister with learning difficulties and severe epilepsy and I know how this will affect her. I have a mother who has cancer who uses the NHS. No man is an island and we are all an accident or redundancy away from struggling. It's not a game to me, there will be riots on the streets and your children will grow up in a very different Britain. That's about as far away from a blinding result as you can get.

WastingMyYoungYears · 09/05/2015 10:10

Tondelay, I can't tell who you're quoting Grin (MN limitation).

An integral part of democracy is also freedom of speech, and therefore the right to protest. And how we'll have to over the next 5 years.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/05/2015 10:13

Anyone who thinks it's ok to have no heating, hot water and an inside bathroom in THIS country NOW needs their values examined.

6th richest country in the world with the BIGGEST gap between rich and poor leads to terrible social unrest, increased demands on the NHS and an increase in child poverty.

I grew up in poverty with the damp, the mould, the no heating and the awful food and it was very frightening being hungry occasionally. But I was a child and almost completely protected from the true picture by my mother who tried to hide how frightened she was even though my sister and I could hear her crying at night.

As the Middle and upper classes living standards have raised so SHOULD the poor. It is not ok now to say they can live in unheated and damp homes and get ill from them.

EVERYONE should be able to keep their house warm and damp free
EVERYONE should have enough good quality food to eat - fruit and veg, not Poundland biscuits (which are the cheapest)
EVERYONE needs to be able to afford to travel to work and seek work

None of the above should be luxuries in this country NOW.

OTheHugeManatee · 09/05/2015 10:17

Queen - fair enough. If you think Conservative policies are going to harm your loved ones that's an entirely valid reason to have voted against them. I'm just sick of the way many people parade their left-wing-ness as a kind of stealth boast about how caring and morally evolved they are compared to those evil baby eating Tories and that's how your quoted post came across.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 09/05/2015 10:17

I'm quoting Maninawomansworld which seems to express the sentiment of several Tories on here:

The tories won. That's that. We must not complain, speak out, worry, cry, protest, insult or express our dissatisfaction. This seems to be the message coming from certain (not all) voters on here.

I feel sorry for people who think that putting an X in a box every five years is the only way you can participate democratically. I certainly am not going to shut the fuck up. Yesterday I wrote to my Tory MP asking about manifesto promises. Today we are going on a march to save our local libraries.

I am certainly not going to "shut the fuck up" maninawomansworld

Queenofwands · 09/05/2015 10:19

CHaris....so you can afford to heavily insure but you can't afford to save more than 15.00 a month for a 10 PC deposit on a boiler. I don't think your managing your finances very well to be honest. How much exactly did you pay for this boiler? You will have spent more than that boiling kettles and pans of hot water to bathe your child. Are you on benefits ? Are my taxes supporting your profligacy? If you only found it inconvenient not to have hot water and heating ....do you really need it?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 09/05/2015 10:19

Laurie, people think that unless you're a fly-covered starving child in a refugee camp, you're not properly poor. It's a common theme.

raawwhh · 09/05/2015 10:26

TondelayoSchwarzkopf

I personally find the personal attacks that a lot of Labour supporters are making unacceptable. Stating that you must be stupid to vote Tory etc.

By all means protest your politics but the moment people start making character attacks on people based on their voting preferences you come across and ignorant and juvenile. (Please note I am using the general 'you' here and not personally addressing you)

I have also found a lot of militant Labourists unable to argue their point apart from the usual "(insert other party) eats babies".

MeggyMooAndTinkerToo · 09/05/2015 10:28

bet they don't give a flying monkeys for anyone coming under attack by the Tories. The poor, disabled and tennants

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised that many people do give a "flying monkeys". You made a rather sweeping statement there OP. Let me explain to you. DH and I have tenants in 3 houses and have taken a financial "hit" on more than one occasion when their housing benefit wasn't in on time or when they were made redundant. The arrears were written off as we actually care! We also don't expect rent in December as it's Christmas and can be a financial struggle for many families with children at that time of year. We also often drop past with eggs/fruit/meat and veg as we live on a farm and have an abundance of these items at certain times of the year. One of our tenants has a disabled child and we were happy for them to have the parts of the house they needed altered. We, unlike many other LL, don't insist on short term tenancies but instead agree long term lets as we are well aware of the uncertainty private renting can bring.

Donations are also given weekly to local food banks.

So yes, I'm a complete and utter heartless cunt according to you (and many others) for voting Tory. However, no doubt in true Mumsnet style I will be accused of having a "stealth boast" by answering an OP.

flippinada · 09/05/2015 10:30

Charis wanting a warm, comfortable home, access to hot water and decent food is not having unreasonably high expectations.

And we do treat people who try and starve themselves to death, with anorexia being the obvious example.

But then, there is a difference between starving yourself deliberately and starving because you can't afford to eat.

When it comes down to it, Mark Wood starved to death, and having his benefits cut contributed to that in no small part.

MozzchopsThirty · 09/05/2015 10:34

Wow Meggy Smile you sound like a lovely landlord

devon004 · 09/05/2015 10:34

Actually the majority of the country did not vote Tory. Only 37.9% did

NRomanoff · 09/05/2015 10:35

The tories won. That's that. We must not complain, speak out, worry, cry, protest, insult or express our dissatisfaction. This seems to be the message coming from certain (not all) voters on here.

As a tory voter i don't think you should just accept it and move on. However I was nearly sick the last time Labour got voted in. I didn't personally attack or call anyone name for voting for them.

Expressing dissatisfaction, bewilderment and questioning is perfectly acceptable and welcomed. Stooping to ignorant personal attacks is not. Not saying you, personally, have. I am speaking generally. But it doesn't have to be shut up or insult people. There is a middle ground.

I think if Labour had worked harder on that middle ground, we would have had a different outcome. I for one was very shocked by the exit polls and even more shocked they were correct.

devon004 · 09/05/2015 10:35

Or was it 36.9

flippinada · 09/05/2015 10:35

Tondelayo very true. Apparently nobody can be poor in this country.

BeaufortBelle · 09/05/2015 10:39

Agrees with MeggyMoo.
