That's it, really. Let's hope that's the beginning of the end for UKIP.

with a Tory government that will be utterly bogged down by infighting over Europe? Lib Dems are dead, Labour in disarray - they may not have seats but UKIP aren't going anywhere! Fuckers.

AuntieStella · 08/05/2015 11:54

Farage may return. It depends on what UKIP do next.

He has resigned, but hasn't ruled out standing again at some unspecified point in the future.

And yes, if we did not have FPTP, he'd be an MP leading one of the largest party blocs in the Commons.

Patapouf · 08/05/2015 12:09

I have never been so pleased we have a FPTP system. Thank sweet baby Jesus he lost.

muminhants · 08/05/2015 12:25

Silver linings: Caroline Lucas kept her seat in Brighton.

1/3 of MPs are women

And Nigel didn't win (but Douglas Caswell sadly did).

Tanith · 08/05/2015 12:28

And Ed too...

Patapouf · 08/05/2015 12:29

Also, don't forget: Cameron said he wouldn't go for a third term!!

Tanith · 08/05/2015 12:32

Hmmm! Promises, promises Grin

We could be looking forward to a complete clear out, though.

OneStepCloser · 08/05/2015 12:39

South Thanet here, so proud of our little area, we have reject racism and bigotry. (not so happy about MacKinley, but for us here the battle for to not elect Farage)

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/05/2015 12:40

More silver linings:

George Galloway
Esther McVey
John Hemming

All gone.

squoosh · 08/05/2015 12:40

Flowers Cake Wine for you OneStep.

Morelikeguidelines · 08/05/2015 12:44

Well done, onestep

As I said above, I would have voted Tory in South Thanet, and had always wondered if there were any circumstances that could make me vote Tory. Now I know. Wine

AdoraBell · 08/05/2015 12:47

Wine Thanks and Cake for OneStep and all in your área who rejected Farage. Well done you.

Tanith · 08/05/2015 13:11

At this rate, we'll have the sun peeping back out Grin

Little 'S' on sun, btw

Bogeyface · 08/05/2015 13:13

Al Murrays face in some of the pictures is just hilarious! There are loads on his twitter feed.

Sadly we have the beer drinking attention junkie tory cunt back in round here :(

squoosh · 08/05/2015 13:18

I've printed off a picture of Nige and Al to stick on my fridge. It will bring me some comfort.

Mistigri · 08/05/2015 13:24

I'm glad he's gone.

But it remains the case that 3 million-ish people voted UKIP, for a single MP. A million people voted Green and got 1 MP.

Meanwhile, 1.4 million voted SNP and we all know the result.

This isn't an anti SNP comment btw (they deserve their success) but it does highlight the unfairness of the FPTP system. It is wrong that such a large segment of the population is so effectively disenfranchised, even if I disagree with their views.

Icimoi · 08/05/2015 13:24

He has resigned, but hasn't ruled out standing again at some unspecified point in the future.

So presumably he wants some yes-man or woman to keep his seat warm for him till he can wander back. Thoroughly dishonest.

UKIP obviously has polled a large number of votes, but you have to question whether those are committed votes in the longer term. If Farage stays out - and probably even if he doesn't - UKIP won't have an adequate brake on the nutters and that will alienate plenty of yesterday's voters.

Al Murray gave us all a good laugh and showed Farage up for what he is.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/05/2015 00:24

I'm a little bit in love with Al Murray since the election. I thought his pie policy was very sound.

ForalltheSaints · 09/05/2015 07:42

For me the silver lining was George Galloway losing.

NIgel Farage will be back as UKIP leader at some point, unless his back injury is too much for him to consider it.

AnyFucker · 09/05/2015 07:59

Could anyone tell me what Al Murray did, I missed it

thanks

tobysmum77 · 09/05/2015 08:14

All this fptp/ pr stuff. The systems have advantages and disadvantages but one of the biggest advantages of fptp is it keeps extremists out, imagine some of the potential minor parties ...... The SNP are different, because they polled the most vote in their area. And they can't get more seats (as they are unlikely to ever get many votes in Chatham). The other really good thing with fptp is that you get a local MP who represents your local interest, with a party list that wouldn't be the case. Personally I would rather stick as we are. And the SNP are not in government, are not the main opposition party so Scottish power in one way is less than when they had some of their MPs in the cabinet.

Tanith · 09/05/2015 08:46

Anyfucker it was his delight when he realised that Nigel Farage had lost.
His mouth dropped open in shock, then he grinned in delight, turned to the Conservative and clapped him on the back. All comically exaggerated Grin
There's a clip on the Daily Standard among others if you want to see it - on my phone atm and can't work out how to link.

I do love joke candidates in our elections and Al's manifesto was the usually good humoured madness Grin

AnyFucker · 09/05/2015 08:58

thanks, Tan

Mrsstarlord · 09/05/2015 09:01
