To think that Katie (or the queen) should make up formula following NHS guidelines

Kate's decision to bottlefeed is a personal one. It is her decision how she feeds her baby. Like every mum in the land she deserves support and the freedom to make her own baby feeding decisions. However I feel its important that whoever is making up feeds does it safely and follows NHS guidelines.

There is no reason to make up feeds in batches or use the microwave to heat formula. The microwave can be used to sterilise the bottles, but not to heat up pre made feeds. It would be awful if princess Charolotte got burnt by hot spots of milk in the bottle or contracted gastrocentitis. They have a qualfied nanny who surely must be familiar with current recommendations.

NHS guidelines

Lots of mums with two children under two have to manage without paid help.

And and the Queen's nappy changing technique while being supervised by Katie really needs brushing up.

Perfectlypurple · 07/05/2015 14:34

Love how the op gets all indignant without even reading the article. It is clear if you read it that it is fake, even if you don't notice it is fake from the lookalikeish people

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 07/05/2015 14:39

I was going to suggest that the OP should come back and pretend she knew it wasn't real all along and was just having us on. I can't really see anyone falling for that though.

I've always wondered who falls for those Spoof pictures, now I know.

Dame New guidelines for making formula say bottles shouldn't be batch made, they have to be made up as and when needed. My health visitor suggested I sterilize the bottles and pour the boiled water in, refrigerate and then put the formula in when the bottle was needed.

:o

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/05/2015 15:12

Rebelfor- I used to make six at a time, cool them under a running tap and put them in the fridgeGrin

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 07/05/2015 15:13

But rebel the water won't be hot enough to kill any potential bacteria in the formula powder then!

ender · 07/05/2015 15:19

Well done OP, never miss an opportunity to educate the masses Grin
sorry can't resist, have to point this out....
rebel your HV is wrong, formula powder should be added to v hot water to kill off any bacteria that might be present.
Why would you boil the water then put in fridge to make it cold before adding formula?

rebelfor · 07/05/2015 15:33

I did too, Dame, 10 years ago and it was fine to do so, but apparently now it's changed. I was told in hospital and by the first couple of midwives I saw at home to make one at a time (including sterilizing).

I mentioned it to the HV how the idea seemed silly when you have a baby who could projectile vomit their feed and need another, or just be hungrier sooner than you could anticipate and she told me how bacteria could form in pre-made bottles, and said what she would suggest (although it went against the rules somewhat) was to sterilize, pour in cool boiled water (no longer than 30 minutes after being boiled) and then refrigerate them and warm them up when needed, then add the formula, and to not use the water-only-bottles after 24 hours.

She wasn't 'old school' either, I'd say late twenties.

Pico2 · 07/05/2015 15:34

Your HV might need to read the [[http://www.nhs.uk/start4life/documents/pdfs/start4life_guide_to_bottle_feeding.pdf NHS's leaflet]] on formula feeding.

This is ace.

Reminds me of the day of UCM's failed name change, followed immediately by a response of "is that you, UCM?" Classic.
