to be pissed off that my "unique" tattoo is showing up all over the place?

A few years ago I went searching for my perfect tattoo. I spent a lot of time looking for somebody who's drawing style I loved. Turns out the guy was in the USA but we spoke over skype and he came up with a design that I loved. He emailed the image and I found the tattooist I wanted to put it on my skin.

Anyway now, a couple of years on I keep seeing it popping up on the net. AIBU to be pissed that my tattoo is being copied

And you propelusa.

propelusagain · 07/05/2015 16:26

But tattoos are permanent. I may dye my hair, or buy a new dress, but all my "modifications" are temporary.
I may adore a colour of lipstick but I realise that I probably won't in 10 years time.
The growth of the laser tattoo "removal" is a booming industry.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/05/2015 16:31

No one has ever pointed that out on a tattoo related thread before, propelus. How clever of you.

propelusagain · 07/05/2015 16:35

Glad I could be of service.

Whether or not I like tattoos is irrelevant but I have to say, those watercolour tattoos are beautiful. I think the pastel colours are lovely.

Well done on finding a way to overcome your horrible ordeals OP.

BertieBotts · 07/05/2015 16:38

Bear - the OP uploaded that photo TO THIS PAGE Confused

propelusagain · 07/05/2015 16:43

all those people kicking themselves when they realised their tattoos won't wash off.

And they do kick themselves- one in three people end up regretting their tats according to British Association of Dermatologists.

It's the permanance that's the problem.

I see rashes of "dinky" little dolphins, stars, Asian symbols and other crap emblazoned forever.

Bearbehind · 07/05/2015 16:45

RTFT bertie Hmm

I've acknowledged that I fucked up and that the image on Google that I thought was the OP actually wasn't her although, ironically, it was in a way as it appears it's the original image of her tattoo!

And, y'know, jokes about hearing voices is somewhat disabilist...

propelusagain · 07/05/2015 16:49

Well, at least bad tattoos can be removed. They can't though- that's the problem. At least not completely or with scarring or huge expense.

Thankfully the only partner I have ever had with a tattoo was a man that had to have medically necessary ones.

Cheryl Cole has that on her arse.

Branleuse · 07/05/2015 17:04

Theres a tattooist near me that does loads of similar tattoos to that, with the no outline thing. There were loads of pictures of them when i got my last tatt a few years ago. Im sorry it isnt anywhere near as unique as you thought, but I dont think it ever was.

The main thing is whether you like it though, and not whether anyone else has the same thing

PacificDogwood · 07/05/2015 17:38

starshaker, you have explained what your tattoo/s mean to you really articulately and I hope their special meaning will remain protective of you Thanks

propelus, isn't it great how everybody can either have tattoos or not have tattoos according to what they prefer?? I don't understand why you need to share you disapproval of them on this particular thread Confused. And yes, I am glad that people who need tattoos for 'medical' reasons can have them - I don't think that makes them more 'worthy' tbh.

DiscoMoo · 07/05/2015 17:43

Tattoo threads always make me laugh. MNers will fight to the death for little boys to wear dresses, girls not to wear pink, women to be comfortable in their own skins, have the hair they want and express themselves as individuals but heaven forbid anyone should choose to have a tattoo! To do so would be common, chavvy, vulgar and a load of other words that a MNer would usually be vilified for using.

People have a right to do what they want to their own bodies. Get over it.

Yarp · 07/05/2015 17:46

Wheni first looked at the picture, I thought you had a really nasty open wound.
Possibly my eyesight....

Yarp · 07/05/2015 17:52

OP

Massive apologies. My post was really really insensitive in the context of your post about the reason for your tattoo

Really sorry

AmarettoSour · 07/05/2015 18:35

I'd rather have a tattoo than a permanent rod up my arse like propelus Grin

propelusagain · 07/05/2015 18:38

AmarettoSour You go get one then, I am sure you will look very dignified.

How can you be sure you were the first to get it done? Maybe you "copied" it from someone else without knowing???
