They had been honest on the baby's birth certificate. We are at my DSis and DBils over the May Day weekend, leaving tomorrow. Anyway, unlike us they have TV, radios, newspapers ect. and my Dsis is royalty mad, so the news has been on the whole flipping time, even on specialist news channels! Anyway, she has just shown me an article about the Baby's BC and it says Mother's Occupation: Princess of UK, now I don't follow the royals or any media, but I did hear a while back that the DoC did not do many duties because she is a SaHM, so why couldn't she put that on the BC? It's like it's not a real thing. This makes me cross for 2 reasons, I am practically a SAHM, as I only work out of the home 3 days a month and I think if she'd written SAHM, it would have given it good publicity. However, I'm also cross irrationally, I know, but I am PG Princess is not an occupation, it's a title, which can't be earned on merit. I get the charity thing, so why not put philanthropist? The same with the husband, he's in the air ambulance, isn't he, last I heard (was told by Dsis), why doesn't he put that? I just think it's laughably old fashioned to have titles as occupations, as if they have to prove they are 'special' or 'other'. What's wrong with writing what they do far a living?

DC's not FC's. Unless you're Momma Christmas.

quietasamouse · 05/05/2015 19:43

There are so many other issues to discuss around royalists/republicans rather than what goes on a birth certificate!

Mia1415 · 05/05/2015 19:43

YABU! Like it or not that is her job

Viviennemary · 05/05/2015 19:44

I'm not a royalist. But I don't agree she is a SAHM. She does royal duties. So that's her occupation I suppose.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 05/05/2015 19:53

If she had spent any time at all using her qualifications/getting a real job/pursuing a career during the decade she spent clinging onto going out with William, I daresay she'd garner a little more respect.

As it is, she gets pulled up on this kind of thing because she's earned a rep for being lazy, and she doesn't appear to be very popular.

She strikes me as being hard as nails - she's finally got herself into the position she wanted, and I doubt she gives two hoots what anyone thinks!

sliceofsoup · 05/05/2015 19:58

Anyway, unlike us they have TV, radios, newspapers ect.

So not only does Catherine get your judgy pants hoiked, but also your own sister, for the crime of having a TV.

I suppose your sister also doesn't do enough for Human Rights, owns a goat and feeds her kids fruit shoots.

You are coming across totally barmy OP, and I don't think it is pregnancy related.

I put "Homemaker" on my DCs BCs. The Registrar told me I had to write something and suggested that so I went with it.

munchkinmaster · 05/05/2015 19:59

Can I ask the royal boffins (all you lot who know about being princess William of Wales)....

Why is he his royal higness William blah blah blah

And she is

Catherine her royal highness blah blah

Is there a significance to the order?

conquistador · 05/05/2015 20:00

YABU, though I expect you already know that Hmm

Ilikecakes · 05/05/2015 20:00

Stealth boast

Ilikecakes · 05/05/2015 20:01

Oh and YABVU

littleflick · 05/05/2015 20:02

Why does sahm need publicity??

MorrisZapp · 05/05/2015 20:06

Yabu.

However I did piss myself when Wayne Rooney's marriage certificate was in the paper and Colleen had described herself as a journalist.

Pa ha ha ha!

shitebag · 05/05/2015 20:08

I must admit when I saw it on the news my first thought was "how did he go from Prince William of Wales to the Duke of Cambridgeshire to the Prince of the UK?". Prince of the United Kingdom is not a term I've ever heard used by them or anyone else before.

My second thought was "why the feck is there a picture of a birth certificate on the screen and why did I care what they wrote on it?".

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/05/2015 20:09

Munchkinmaster - I would assume that the difference in how they are titled is because William was born royal, and Catherine married into it. I am happy to be proved wrong if someone who knows more than me comes along with facts not guesses, though!

Thurlow · 05/05/2015 20:12

But.. she is a princess. She does 21st century princess stuff. Charities, public engagements, that sort of thing.

Might not be the same as being an A&E doctor, but she does do some stuff. She's not at home all day every day doing the nursery run and pureeing roast dinners.

sliceofsoup · 05/05/2015 20:16

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Lady Carrickfergus

His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge KG KT

He is also Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.

Those are the official titles. The order in which the media writes them may change, but there is no difference in the official order.

CindyEcstacy · 05/05/2015 20:16

You don't have a TV, a radio or a newspaper?

msgrinch · 05/05/2015 20:23

You can't put sahm on a birth certificate, it's paid employment... your occupation. Sahm is not an occupation as many pp have said.

Fauxlivia · 05/05/2015 20:23

Loving the notion of her being on maternity leave Grin . As if she has a job.

I don't dislike her and I wish her well with her new baby but I laugh at the idea that she is somehow hard done by because she went back to royal duties 3 months after her son was born. I was teaching when my son was 8 weeks old - bet my job was harder than hers. She's hardly down the mines.

Anyway, I agree that 'Princess' is a title and not a job description.

shitebag · 05/05/2015 20:24

You can put house wife/person on the birth certificate.

LaLyra · 05/05/2015 20:24

Munchkinmaster It is because of the royal birth thing. HRH Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge would be a royal born Princess. HRH Princess William, Duchess of Cambridge or Catherine, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge is the wife of a Prince & Duke.

Fauxlivia · 05/05/2015 20:27

Oh and it's not a huge sacrifice to have your hair and make up done 10 hours after giving birth. I'd have loved it.

If you have a straightforward delivery then there's no reason to assume you won't feel up to wearing make up and posing for a few photo's later that day.

Butkin · 05/05/2015 20:52

An example of what they did on 27th March - when she was 8 months pregnant:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this morning visited the Stephen Lawrence Centre, 39 Brookmill Road, London SE8, and were received by Colonel Jane Davis (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London).
Their Royal Highnesses afterwards attended a showcase by XLP, an urban youth charity, at Christ Church, 1 Highland Road, London SE19, and were received by Her Majesty' s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir David Brewer).
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge subsequently visited XLP projects at Hazel Grove Estate, Sydenham, London SE26.
The Duke of Cambridge, Joint Patron, The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, this afternoon held a Meeting at St. James's Palace

Hardly a SAHM...

Hulababy · 05/05/2015 21:01

Princess is her occupation.
She is not a SAHM.
Duchess is her main title.

Icimoi · 05/05/2015 21:05

She didn't put anything on the certificate, the registrar did. If anyone misinformed him, it was Prince William, since he signed it. But you can bet that the reality is that he was presented with something that was already filled out with parental details completed in accordance with the protocol that has been used for around 200 years.

And if a Princess isn't an occupation, then sahm isn't either. I assume if you asked for it the Registrar would put something like "housewife" down. OP would probably be even more enraged by that.
