They had been honest on the baby's birth certificate. We are at my DSis and DBils over the May Day weekend, leaving tomorrow. Anyway, unlike us they have TV, radios, newspapers ect. and my Dsis is royalty mad, so the news has been on the whole flipping time, even on specialist news channels! Anyway, she has just shown me an article about the Baby's BC and it says Mother's Occupation: Princess of UK, now I don't follow the royals or any media, but I did hear a while back that the DoC did not do many duties because she is a SaHM, so why couldn't she put that on the BC? It's like it's not a real thing. This makes me cross for 2 reasons, I am practically a SAHM, as I only work out of the home 3 days a month and I think if she'd written SAHM, it would have given it good publicity. However, I'm also cross irrationally, I know, but I am PG Princess is not an occupation, it's a title, which can't be earned on merit. I get the charity thing, so why not put philanthropist? The same with the husband, he's in the air ambulance, isn't he, last I heard (was told by Dsis), why doesn't he put that? I just think it's laughably old fashioned to have titles as occupations, as if they have to prove they are 'special' or 'other'. What's wrong with writing what they do far a living?

I expect it wasn't their choice. It probably has to be officially recorded like that to prove Charlotte is an hier to the throne, otherwise any Charlotte with an air ambulances and a SAHM could claim to be the royal princess (or rather descendants in generations to come could claim links to the throne iyswim? ) inherited em same way there was a procedure for receding George's birth and the ways e announcement had to be made

magoria · 05/05/2015 19:12

I am sure there was an almost identical thread last time round.

No idea how you would search it though.

LoxleyBarrett · 05/05/2015 19:13

SAHM isn't an occupation...

BMW6 · 05/05/2015 19:13

OP - how do you think the Queen should describe her "occupation" - OAP? Hmm

alwaysstaytoolong · 05/05/2015 19:14

What did you put as your occupation on DC birth certificate?.

Oh no, that's right it's got nothing to do with me and doesn't affect me in any way. I'd still like to judge whether or not I 'respect' you for it though.

Oh no again, I wouldn't make a judgement on how much I respect a person because of that.

But if you were in the public domain I could right?. OK

For God sake there have been threads on here criticising the baby's name, her Mother's choice of apparel, their privilege and now what has been put on their child's birth certificate.

I'm another one saying I wouldn't swap places with the Duchess of Cambridge because despite the 'privilege' I would hate everyone in the world thinking they can have an opinion on every little thing I do and think I'm somehow exempt from the normal displays of empathy, respect of privacy and choices and not judging someone that we don't know (unless engaging in causing harm to others).

nottheOP · 05/05/2015 19:15

Sahm/sahp is not a job.

Yabu. can't believe I commented on this thread

ToriaPumpkin · 05/05/2015 19:15

When I registered both my children I had to give my last paid employment as my occupation despite being made redundant during my first pregnancy and having not yet returned to work. And it wasn't a high flying career I might want recorded either, it was Shop Assistant. I think I'd have rather put Princess of The UK.

Moln · 05/05/2015 19:18

Hold on a minute; you don't have a TV or any radios or newspapers, nor any etcs?

flowery · 05/05/2015 19:20

I wonder how many hours she has spent on royal engagements in the past year? Enough for it to count as an occupation I'm sure. Including when she was very heavily pregnant and would probably have preferred to be at home in jogging bottoms in front of the telly.

Fleecyleesy · 05/05/2015 19:20

She is nothing resembling a SAHM or a WOHM for that matter.

FGS, the day the woman gave birth, it was her JOB# to get scrubbed up and pose for hundreds of photographers and have those photos splashed all over the world. No SAHM or WOHM with any job title I have ever heard of has to do that.

#That job title is princess btw so the birth cert was entirely accurate!

albertcampionscat · 05/05/2015 19:23

I was rather hoping for tax avoiding benefit scrounger, but there you go.

LynetteScavo · 05/05/2015 19:24

She's a Duchess, rather than a Mrs, but her Occupation is Princess.

She goes to official engagements ect as a princess....while the public coo that a princess is in their presence. That's her job. How she earns her living.

I think you've given this far to much thought, OP. I don't even know what is on my DCs birth certificates.

I do remember arguing with DH in front of the registrar about what my occupation was to be inserted on our marriage certificate. I would have to check what I decided on......

AyeAmarok · 05/05/2015 19:24

Some people just can't win, no matter what they do.

Kate's place is in the wrong, evidently.

DownWithThisTypeOfThing · 05/05/2015 19:26

Damnautocorrect
You can put whatever you like on the certificate
You too could put "princess of the United Kingdom" if you wished

Really? Oh why didn't I know this? I'd have been a space cowboy for Dc1 and a professional uni cyclist for dc2. Imagine future generations doing family tree stuff Grin

Marmiteandjamislush · 05/05/2015 19:26

No, Moln. Just read Reuters.

OP posts:
DuchessDisaster · 05/05/2015 19:27

Didn't the late Princess of Wales put exactly the same thing? Nobody questioned it then, did they?

shewept · 05/05/2015 19:28

think if she'd written SAHM, it would have given it good publicity

So she should have lied to make sahms feel better. I don't think sahms would have felt better if she had claimed to be one.

Give the fucking girl a break. How many people here would be happy with having to have their hair done, make up applied and get dressed up to be paraded in front of the world press 10 hours after giving birth?

I can imagine the aibu thread now. Grin The fact is, she does it because that's her job. Job being the operative word.

I am not a fan of the royal family but Kate seems to have people talk rubbish about her no matter what she does

GingerCuddleMonster · 05/05/2015 19:30

DP was told he needed to put his military number, rank and regiment I was a bit Shock and a tiny bit jealous as mine was just a simple job Envy

last I checked she is a princess so she gets to put that surely.

Marmiteandjamislush · 05/05/2015 19:31

I put Human rights charity worker on DC1 BC, as that's what I did then.On DC 2's Human rights charity worker and lecturer. With DC 3, I will probably put the same, as I still work out of the home, but would put SAHM, if I didn't, it's as much a job as Princess, so why not.

OP posts:
InQuiteAPickle · 05/05/2015 19:33

They don't let you put Sahm on a Birth Certificate, or they didn't let me when my DD1 was born. I'm happy to be corrected and I would be interested to see if anyone else has been able to but mine was just left blank.

I don't suppose it's an occupation.

chickensandbees · 05/05/2015 19:35

Princess is a job title and occupation. She was doing her job hours after she gave birth, not many people have to do that!

Doctor is a job title and occupation as well.

shewept · 05/05/2015 19:36

You only work out of the home 3 days a month.

If princess isn't worth putting on the birth certificate (she works more than 3 days per month) and she should have out sahm, then surely you should too?

chickensandbees · 05/05/2015 19:38

I don't think SAHM counts as an occupation as it isn't paid work.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 05/05/2015 19:39
  1. If she wasn't a princess you probably wouldn't have ever seen what she put on the BC
  2. If titles don't matter and she shouldn't be using it because she married into it, you might need to have a word with the millions of ordinary women who married into the name they put on their FC's birth certs.
chickensandbees · 05/05/2015 19:39

Do you think the disney princesses put princess as their occupation as well? Grin
