They had been honest on the baby's birth certificate. We are at my DSis and DBils over the May Day weekend, leaving tomorrow. Anyway, unlike us they have TV, radios, newspapers ect. and my Dsis is royalty mad, so the news has been on the whole flipping time, even on specialist news channels! Anyway, she has just shown me an article about the Baby's BC and it says Mother's Occupation: Princess of UK, now I don't follow the royals or any media, but I did hear a while back that the DoC did not do many duties because she is a SaHM, so why couldn't she put that on the BC? It's like it's not a real thing. This makes me cross for 2 reasons, I am practically a SAHM, as I only work out of the home 3 days a month and I think if she'd written SAHM, it would have given it good publicity. However, I'm also cross irrationally, I know, but I am PG Princess is not an occupation, it's a title, which can't be earned on merit. I get the charity thing, so why not put philanthropist? The same with the husband, he's in the air ambulance, isn't he, last I heard (was told by Dsis), why doesn't he put that? I just think it's laughably old fashioned to have titles as occupations, as if they have to prove they are 'special' or 'other'. What's wrong with writing what they do far a living?

What did they put the first time round?
Doesn't matter they are royalty so same rules don't apply regarding birth certificates or anything else... Surely?

Mehitabel6 · 05/05/2015 18:51

It isn't a job that I would want!
Why are you bothered? Confused

Marmiteandjamislush · 05/05/2015 18:51

But all those elements are jobs and positive, why not choose one of them. Royal/ aristo titles are daft if you're born with one, but she wasn't, it's like saying who she is and what she does isn't good enough, which is sad I think.

I think you might need a lie down in a dark room OP

MissBattleaxe · 05/05/2015 18:53

IS she a princess though? Why wouldn't they put duke and dutchess as those are their titles rather than prince and princess?

Yes. She is Princess William of Wales, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Strathairn (sp?). They decided to use the Duke and Duchess title instead of the Prince and Princess title.

It wouldn't be accurate to say she is a SAHM as she is also patron of many charities and has a public function.

OP YABU. She and William probably don't have all the say in what they put on the BC, it is probably a matter of protocol and years of tradition.

It would confuse future historians if she pretends she is just ordinary.

WhetherOrNot · 05/05/2015 18:54

I would rather live in my little semi and be poor than know that I am on show every day everywhere I go, and knowing what my itinerary is for the next 5 10 years day in and day out. It is most certainly not a job I would want - and it IS a job.

AuntyMag10 · 05/05/2015 18:55

Do you really, really expect her to put her occupation as a sahmConfused

I know someone who teaches a kids after school dance class. Her dc's birth certificate says she's a primary school teacher!

Marmiteandjamislush · 05/05/2015 18:57

What would be wrong in that, Mag? And yes I do think William should have putt rescue pilot. As I said though, I am Pg and irrational and sick of hearing it all from Dsis Grin

Princess is her title as well as her occupation.

What other occupation could she possibly put?

She does have a job, maybe not one you respect, but a job nonetheless.

Northernlurker · 05/05/2015 18:58

This is what they put on the first BC too and it is in fact completely accurate. I can't believe people get worked up about this!

Of all the things that get chucked at the Duchess, that she's now letting the side down by not putting sahm/homemaker/housewife/none in the Occupation box of her kids' BCs is THE MOST ABSURD I've yet read!

OrlandoWoolf · 05/05/2015 18:58

Prince or Helicopter Pilot?

Pilot is much cooler Grin

BlackTrivet · 05/05/2015 18:59

YABU

I think they both do quite a lot of work as prince and princess, and a lot more than we see. Not a job I would like, or be vaguely good at. They both make it look easy. I'm sure some aspects of the 'job' would still be carried out if they were 'just' a Duke/ Duchess but the majority as because William IS heir to the throne. They are special!

They put exactly the same thing on George's certificate.

msgrinch · 05/05/2015 18:59

She's not a sahm op. She's on maternity leave from her job, her job as princess of Wales.

Back in the day that part of the birth certificate used to say 'Rank or occupation'. All they have done is follow the old style: they have put down their rank, which is Prince and Princess of the United Kingdom.

Princess and duchess is what she does. She isn't a sahm. How many stay at home mums go to engagements every week? Or leave their children at home to go do a royal visit.

William has a job, but the job will always come behind the fact that he is 2nd in line to the throne. Royal engagements, top his working life.

shewept · 05/05/2015 19:11

If she put sahm there would be hundreds of sahms saying she has a cheeck putting sahm when she works so much, has a nanny and a full staff. Its not really a sahm.

glittertits · 05/05/2015 19:12

She is definitely a princess by occupation. Hardly 'lying'. Biscuit
