Unnecessary bragging on eBay

Ok, browsing through the clothing on eBay and often find it annoyingfunny how some often feel the need to put "selling due to weight loss" on their item descriptions. I don't care AIBU ?

I think they're just saying that there is a genuine reason for sale and that they're not selling the clothes because they're awful items.

That's how I see it anyway.

Yep reason for sale, not they are worn out, soo last year, or just vile

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 04/05/2015 21:21

That's not bragging. That's just giving a genuine reason why they would want to sell. It's to show that it's not a sale due to the dress being an ugly colour, or style or material etc etc.

MammaTJ · 04/05/2015 21:21

Just saying they haven't had much wear! I am still fat, so would jump on these items! Grin

That's if I hadn't discovered this.

CtrlAltDelicious · 04/05/2015 21:24

Oh really OP? Does it bother you that much?
Can't you just think "fair play for losing the weight."

Readingwritingandarithmetic · 04/05/2015 21:30

No, it doesn't really bother me, but I do think its unnecessary mentioning weight loss. I can see by sensible honest descriptions and photographs that it's not hideously vile and yuk....anyway...maybe I am being unreasonable (coz I wish I could lose weight) Wink

snowglobemouse · 04/05/2015 21:32

'No, it doesn't really bother me'

it clearly does

PurpleSwift · 04/05/2015 21:32

I don't read it that way at all. It's a valid reason and is reassuring that it isn't because it's old/worn/tatty or just vile.

ChesterCake · 04/05/2015 21:36

I do read it a bit as 'selling due to weight loss - you're clearly fatter than me to fit them!' But it doesn't put me off buying

FourEyesGood · 04/05/2015 21:37

I agree with you, OP. It suggests "This item is too big for me, but it'll fit you, because you haven't bothered to do what I've done and lost weight."
When I sold some stuff due to weight loss, I used the ambiguous "Selling as it no longer fits me" so that prospective bidders wouldn't be put off by my smugness. I was smug, but at least I tried to hide it. Grin

Readingwritingandarithmetic · 04/05/2015 21:46

Thank you Chester and Foureyes, yes, it's the smugness that gets me! Sooooo smug! [big grin]

tobysmum77 · 04/05/2015 21:47

So when I sold a pair of expensive jodphurs that were uncomfortable as they were too small (and put that as the reason for their mint condition) that would have been acceptable..... Grin

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 07/05/2015 05:32

MammaTJ that site looks like a bargain. Are the products any good? Have you ordered from them?

Silvercatowner · 07/05/2015 06:38

But in the guidance for sellers, Ebay advise that you should put a reason why your are selling the item. Weight loss seems a very valid reason to me.

Eustasiavye · 07/05/2015 07:22

I think it is a valid reason, same as house move.
I can see how it might make you cross though.

BikeRunSki · 07/05/2015 07:26

There is also "selling as it no longer fits me" which I interpret as "I've put on weight which isn't shifting any time soon".

singlikethepianoMargot · 07/05/2015 07:52

I don't necessarily think it is bragging but it does make me feel like a fatty and would probably out me off buying them... But hat is clear,y my issue ;)

Crocodopolis · 07/05/2015 08:36

I've seen the phrase but it doesn't cross my radar. I am interested in the quality of the item and the price.

OllyBJolly · 07/05/2015 08:40

I see an equal number of posts that say "Sadly no longer fits" as a reason for sale.

I don't think it's bragging - just a valid reason which won't put buyers off (Like never liked the colour, shows every bump and lump, not flattering)
