To think if a child was sexually abused, the accused would be arrested and investigated?

As above, Apparently the police 'don't think there is a victim'?

please be very careful discussing this online if this is a real current case you are talking about!

shewept · 04/05/2015 20:26

Need more info sorry.

I was under the impression that police did some investigating before arresting a suspect. As they can only hold them for limited time, it helps to have some work done already.

Would need more info before anyone can decide whether the police were being unreasonable in not arresting someone.

shewept · 04/05/2015 20:27

Sorry, not asking for more info, just saying no one can make a judgment.

But Phantom is right, be very very careful what is said online.

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:27

Thank you, It isn't in my family.

They need evidence though not just accusation?

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:29

OK I am trying to support someone but need to know if it is normal for them to dismiss something so serious.

This is what people like to believe. It's often not what happens.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/05/2015 20:30

There is more to this than you have been told or are telling us.

Justusemyname · 04/05/2015 20:31
Confused

Generally the accused would be spoken too first and only arrested if they refused to cooperate or there was still a risk from them.

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:31

Yes Random this is what I'm thinking. The child told mu what had happened though

there is alot in the papers about police ignoring accusations. but its not always that simple.

If for example I accused someone of something, but they can prove that person was elsewhere, maybe out of the country at the time. Then they wouldn't be arrested.

I would imagine, unless the accusation was wildly untrue, the person accused would have at least been investigated or asked to attend to be interviewed. I believe they can do that without arresting.

Icimoi · 04/05/2015 20:34

Is this a case currently being discussed elsewhere on MN?

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:34

Maybe there is Fine, I'm not sure. Apparently they sent social worker to see the child for an interview but she didn't say anything as was too upset. It's awful. Now they say contact has been approved with the person. the mum is distraught.

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:35

No, nowhere

OP posts:
PeppermintCrayon · 04/05/2015 20:35

Ah, that thread. I don't understand why it's not being investigated either.

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:37

Is there another thread?

OP posts:
PeppermintCrayon · 04/05/2015 20:39

OP are you saying you don't believe the poster?

These things aren't always investigated or dealt with. Which is partly why I get so fucked off when people guilt trip survivors who don't want to report.

Jackieharris · 04/05/2015 20:42

If a child made an allegation they should be interviewed by a specially trained social worker and police officer.

If there is no 'evidence' after that interview and no medical evidence then no further action is typical.

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:43

I'm just confused. Didn't post another thread.

OP posts:
LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:44

Ok Jackie thanks. That makes sense

OP posts:
LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:45

Thing is what if they are young and too upset to say anything to a stranger? Seems unfair.

OP posts:
shewept · 04/05/2015 20:45

Has the Mother posted about it?

Also were the police present with the Social Worker?

Is the Social Worker saying it didn't happen?

LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:47

Ok no the mum hasn't. No it was just a SW. Not sure but hear she was too upset to say anything.

OP posts:
LovelyBath · 04/05/2015 20:47

Mum is worried contact has been grated and this goes to being unsupervised with time.
