Not really.

But AIBU to be getting a bit fed up with the scaremongering threads about things the Conservative Party has not proposed to do? Like abolish child benefit or completely privatise the NHS?

It's silly. Stop it Hmm

Do you have any idea how many people have said to me "i would vote green but they have no chance"? Its quite a few. I wish people would just vote for the party they believe in, rather than trying to do it tactically.

Floisme · 04/05/2015 15:15

Oh I see.
You and your friends are just having a giggle, op?
Ha very ha.

emotionsecho · 04/05/2015 15:17

Yes Uncertain but if the argument is that the increase in property value is due to luck, market forces, circumstances beyond the control of the people living in the property and therefore a reason to take a proportion of their income or the property value in tax, then surely the same applies in reverse if the value of the property plummets due to bad luck, market forces or circumstances beyond the control of the occupiers and they end up in a home worth less than they paid/are paying for it why not a rebate?

FishCanFly · 04/05/2015 15:23

Well, i WILL vote Green, and a lot of people i know will vote Green, but still doesn't look optimistic.

sunshield · 04/05/2015 15:25

Whether people on here, like it or not on Thursday at least 48% of the votes cast will be for either the Conservative Party or UKIP.

I find the attitude of many on here to be ridiculous , when they assume that people voting for either of the two right wing parties means they have no compassion or are racist.

The left learning people on Mumsnet really believe that they are socially superior to anyone who may consider that the right learning parties, may be better for the country. This is an anti democratic as well as a stupid and ignorant stance to take!. The posters who almost on a daily basis, post something along the line of this "tongue in cheek" post" really believe that half of the voting public are either Racist or devoid of any compassion.

This site can not be a representative site if nearly 50% of the voting public can not express their political preference without fear of hounding , ridicule or having offensive comments aimed towards them.

The80sweregreat · 04/05/2015 15:25

The Greens will only get one seat i think. The smaller parties always struggle.

MargoReadbetter · 04/05/2015 15:27

Sunshield - UKIP are racist and they are ridiculed. The Tories lack compassion. You understood correctly. They will always be associated with that. Perhaps you thought your children might be proud of you? You're voting for their future as well.

FishCanFly · 04/05/2015 15:28

I understand why people vote Conservative, but anyone who would trust UKIP are fools.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 04/05/2015 15:32

Why is it unbelievable that half of the public are devoid of compassion or racist? It certainly fits with my experiences of the public. People who argue for disabled parking spaces and moan about our 'free' cars. That sounds like no compassion to me. People who throw bananas at black footballers and refuse to let supporters onto a train.

Yep, all of the public are lovely and understanding and not at all bigoted.

Floisme · 04/05/2015 15:40

I find the attitude of many on here to be ridiculous , when they assume that people voting for either of the two right wing parties means they have no compassion .....
You may have a point but if I were you I wouldn't choose to make it on 'lighthearted' thread about poverty.

emotionsecho · 04/05/2015 15:41

And how do you know how the people who do that vote Beyond if indeed they vote at all?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 04/05/2015 15:59

Oh jolly excellent - another Kipper who thinks that discussing and criticising a political party's policy is "anti-democratic"

sunshield · 04/05/2015 15:59

I have not stated which way I vote, more an observation on posts that are made.

The reality of it all is that there will be little difference in the lives of 95% of the population, whoever gets in to parliament. The people or families who are affected in that their lives change dramatically are in the fringes of society!.

However, I do have a question : How much better off will disadvantaged/poor people be under a Labour Govt perhaps £15-£20 a week. A labour Government is not going to magically cure the country of poverty is it.
You also have to question anyone who would undertake a interview with Russell Brand and not walk out the moment he swigged from a bottle of water interviewing a potential Prime Minister. The "Spinal Tap" style 8 Commandments is just bizarre and Alan Partridge Like.

MargoReadbetter · 04/05/2015 16:00

Well, have a look at this thread. Who is supporting the Tories and thinks it's all BANTZ and a laugh? You've got your answer in this small, unrepresentative sample. Disability, race, all a laugh. Haha.

MargoReadbetter · 04/05/2015 16:03

Oh, propriety, knowing one's place and being deferential to others. Now I get your meaning, sunshield. Where did I put those pearls? Click-click.

fredfredsausagehead1 · 04/05/2015 16:04

Let's see who wins eh?

Biscuit
MargoReadbetter · 04/05/2015 16:04

Yeah. I think we'll see who wins. And that's a better contribution than you've made up thread.

sunshield · 04/05/2015 16:07

I am Not A UKIP voter !.

RedToothBrush · 04/05/2015 16:21

Labour and the Tories are both as bad as enough in terms of cuts in their manifesto. Its just with one they are proposing more cuts sooner and the other is proposing cuts for longer.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other imho.

The thing is its liable to be a hung parliament with a minority government or coalition.

The Tories in particular would be handicapped by this, meaning all the really ring wing harsh cuts would be blocked in the House of Commons OR they will be approved by the other parties.

The same is also possible with Labour to extent. They are unlikely to get the keys to the treasury handed to them on a plate as they would be blocked too.

The point is, we are likely to get a lot of compromise politics if the up coming government is a minority. Yet no fucker is really highlighting this and how everything is going to get watered down and how manifestos are likely to be affected in practise. Mainly because it suits their purposes to scare the shit out of the public with scaremongering about what the Tories / Labour / SNP / UKIP are going to do.

Its about agendas, agendas, agendas.

For example the polls are correct, then it really will be interesting. Especially if the Conservatives win. They want a bill for a referendum on the EU. Chances of that getting through the Commons are low as the maths on seats don't add up in their favour.

DoraGora · 04/05/2015 16:26

I think the idea that roughly half of voters must be racist or devoid of compassion is about fair. Well, the other option is that they're stupid. I don't believe they're stupid at all.

zen1 · 04/05/2015 16:30

If the Tories get back in, I will head down to my local bookies to place a bet that DLA will be taxed before their term is out. Oh and I suspect Carers Allowance to be cut too.

sunshield · 04/05/2015 16:37

If you are allowed to earn £12,500 pounds a year before paying tax !. Providing you earn less than that amount "How could" DLA be taxed ?.. unless your benefits were greater than £12,500 a year.....

Tanith · 04/05/2015 16:37

The Conservative supporters are just as guilty. Thread after thread of claims of a Labour/SNP coalition, financial ruin if Labour get in etc. etc..

They're all at it!

This is the most negative election I ever remember.

DoraGora · 04/05/2015 16:42

They're all at it!

What else are they going to do? 3 days to go and they're all a shower of poo. Only real option is to explain how the other side stinks just that little bit more.

grovel · 04/05/2015 16:42

The Tory voters I know generally don't understand benefits at all (except child benefit) but do actually seem to approve of Carers Allowance.

From a Tory perspective, carers are saving the state money and are almost certainly doing a better job for those they support than any government agency could. Ergo, carers are "good eggs" who deserve financial support.
