I love aldi so much it is saving me a fortune but I get so fed up of having to visit tesco afterwards to get the bits I can't get from aldi (oat milk, wholemeal finger rolls, wholemeal bagels, wholemeal pasta, alpro yogurts etc) it's bad enough dragging the twins round aldi but I hate having to then go to tesco straight after? It makes me want to go back to just shopping at tesco, grrrrrr.......

Can't you alternate weeks at each one and stick up?

MadameJulienBaptiste · 02/05/2015 20:56

Well just go back to giving tesco all your money then Hmm

meglet · 02/05/2015 20:57

yanbu.

I've recently got into lidl. but they don't stock gluten free anything as far as I can tell. I just bulk buy store cupboard items and visit sainsburys for fresh and GF items .

PatMustardsBigTool · 02/05/2015 20:59

YANBU. I love aldi too...to a point. I only get my fresh fruit and veg from there now and get everything else delivered from asda.

BunnyLebowski · 02/05/2015 20:59

YANBU.

It's impossible to do a varied shop in Aldi. Same oul crap every week. Ocado for me.

HerrenaHarridan · 02/05/2015 21:00

I know, god forbid we have to go back to the days where you had to go to lots of independent local shops for your messages.

What we need more of is out of town hyper markets that stock a mass produced, slave made version of every item they think you should need.

Theknacktoflying · 02/05/2015 21:05

It is a complete bind having to top up at other stores, but I do it more for the fact that the big 4 have been ripping us off for years and the savings on the things you can get kind of evens out the inconvenience.

Could you not just do an online tesco shop for the other stuff??

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/05/2015 21:10

Yanbu.

as grateful as I am to the likes of aldi and lidl for the immense savings and enabling me to still cool fresh food when we went through a redundancy. I no longer find shopping in aldi and lidl then having to top up once or twice a week in sainsbury on top of having to buy all the stuff aldi decided to stop selling or don't sell at all any cheaper than doing a whole shop in morrissons.

I've given up now tbh. It's not just about money but about time too.

ReluctantCamper · 02/05/2015 21:14

YANBU.

Like Giles I've given up on Lidl, as by the time I went to a second supermarket I was losing so much time I can't be arsed any more. They don't stock meat with a high enough welfare standard for me.

SignoraStronza · 02/05/2015 21:18

I do Aldi and then make my way over to Waitrose. Judging by the cars I've seen in both car parks and anecdotally with my friends, there are plenty who do the same! Grin

glamourousgranny42 · 02/05/2015 21:18

I cant find any veggie stuff like 'pretend' ham and quorn like stuff so have to go elsewhere.

SaucyJack · 02/05/2015 21:18

YANBU. Aldi is fine if you want to eat the same basic meals every week, but the range gets quite dull after a while- specially for vegetarians.

Pesto, pesto or pesto basically.

drivingmisspotty · 02/05/2015 21:18

I think that is one of the reasons why they are cheaper though. They deliberately stock fewer items so that they are more efficient with space. That and the crazy speed-scanning

StoryOfMyLife · 02/05/2015 21:20

I have a dairy free child so have to go to another supermarket other than my aldi shop to top up the specialist things.

I have started going to M&S simply food instead of Tesco, most of the prices of the basic stuff is similar but there's a lot less to temp me with than Tesco where I end up spending too much. Coop do soya stuff too.

KillmeNow · 02/05/2015 21:21

I went yesterday evening - about 2 hours before they closed and they had no whole milk - at all.

I only went in for bread and wine milk and still had to go to another shop.

MrsPnut · 02/05/2015 21:24

I do Lidl or aldi and then waitrose, I go on a Friday and can do both in an hour and be home to collect from school.

I find having the time pressure keeps me focused.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/05/2015 21:25

yy we are dairy free most the time too so already we have to go elsewhere for the milks and yogurts.

throw in the fact that most the time these days the fruit and veg is all but empty whenever we've gone, they stopped selling bread flour and the green meat they've pulled off the shelf is standing around in boxes in the middle of the aisle and it became pretty much pointless going.

sadly I think some stores have become a victim of their own success.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 02/05/2015 21:28

I hate that you can't guarantee to get something - last time I went it was nail polish remover I needed, but sometimes it's basic stuff like apple and black currant squash (just a lot of half empty boxes containing orange squash)

But it's still hands down the best quality / value for so much stuff

Stinkersmum · 02/05/2015 21:30

Online shopping is your friend. Do your Aldi run, then go home and online shop for what you couldn't get in Aldi.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 02/05/2015 21:33

I think they vary area to area. They had bread flour in the Bracknell one today. I usually go on a Saturday morning at 8 am. It's not busy and te shelves are full. I live in a different town 15 minutes away and can still get to aldi shop and home again in an hour. I do my top up shop at costco.

I did a shop at sainsburys not even a big trolley full one of those smaller ones and still spent over £100. I spend £70 ish at aldi. I buy meat and veg and not very much pre prepared stuff.
Got loads of dried herbs and spices at 41p a jar today. Paprika last week in sainsburys was £1.

CarpeJugulum · 02/05/2015 21:36

Tesco's online delivery?

Southeastdweller · 02/05/2015 21:46

Yes it's a pain in the arse but I agree with TheKnack about the savings outweighing the inconvenience.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/05/2015 21:46

tesco are ridiculously expensive, substitutions are bonkers and there's always a "did not have" list.

no bread? really?

They are as much if a waste of time as anything else

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/05/2015 21:48

south that depends on alot of things. We do t drive so your talking taxi fares home. and taxis there of its a Sunday. add on a delivery charge for online and really savings not that much

Chippednailvarnish · 02/05/2015 21:52

YANBU

I do a monthly ocado shop for this very reason and I'm not keen on Aldi and Lidl's meat.
