Slippers, a faded towelling dressing gown, a scrunchie & big soppy grin.
Like most new mums.

Must be grim having her hair & makeup done.

Cardi. I had my hair done by the hospital hairdresser and my make up by the beautician. My nails had been done a week before I went into hospital with all 3 of my children. I never leave the house without my hair done or my make up on and there is no way I would have left hospital looking like a slob in dressing gown and slippers! You sound rather defensive and appear to have taken Monkeys post personally for some absurd reason. Some people like to make an effort in their appearance and others don't. She wasnt personally attacking you FFS.

HangInThereJoan · 03/05/2015 00:43

looks like she just wrapped herself in the hospital curtains

Greythorne · 03/05/2015 00:54

Her dress is incredibly pretty and she looks amazing. I think her hairdresser did a good job.

I really do think it is remarkable, most women are bleeding, sore, tired and a bit shell shocked.

AuntyMag10 · 03/05/2015 00:58

Cardi take it down a notch. You seem rather hysterical over this Confused

Topseyt · 03/05/2015 03:51

Slob here and proud of it.

I've never had any interest in makeup and prefer leggings or tracksuit bottoms with t-shirt and cardigan / sweatshirt. I've never had a manicure and really can't walk in heels to save my life.

I don't envy Kate's lifestyle because it wouldn't suit me, but she did look good, relaxed and happy.

Brave indeed to wear pale colours, but I speak as one with a tendency to flood anyway.

I'm happy for them, and good luck to them.

SirChenjin · 03/05/2015 10:18

Cardi doesn't seem hysterical at all. Exasperated perhaps...and understandably so. Far too much pressure on women to maintain a certain appearance imo.

formerbabe · 03/05/2015 10:29

Slippers, a faded towelling dressing gown, a scrunchie & big soppy grin.

Does anyone even own scrunchies anymore?!

Like most new mums.

Really...I haven't seen anyone leaving a maternity ward like that. I wore a maxi dress and put some slap on.

Must be grim having her hair & makeup done.

I think it would be lovely...would have loved to have got my hair done after giving birth. Would have given me a little boost.

seaoflove · 03/05/2015 10:43

I had a third degree tear and couldn't bloody walk: shuffle was more like it. I also hadn't slept in four days, and had a wild eyed mad woman look about me.

It's fair to say that my appearance was the last thing on my mind when we left hospital. No one saw me anyway.

I'll be having an ELCS in less than a fortnight and fully expect to find walking a bit of a challenge again.

There's a pair of jogging bottoms waiting in my hospital bag Wink

All these people talking about not being seen dead looking like a slob, etc. should count themselves lucky that they survived childbirth healthy and unscathed.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2015 10:45

I have a feeling most of us would look gorgeous if we had no housework to do,no cooking and a full time nanny day and night. It's not just about the hair and make up, I'm sure total rest and lack of worry about..well, anything really plays a huge part in her looking so fresh.

mind you, I bet the conspiracy theorists who rant on about her using a surrogate are having a field dayWink

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2015 10:48

Seaoflove - I looked groomed but I recognise the mad eyed look in photos of me. I just had the look of someone who could flip at any given moment, which I did spectacularly about a month later!

BeaufortBelle · 03/05/2015 10:56

Has anyone else notice how uncrumpled the baby's face is for a big baby? Just wondering?

Idontseeanydragons · 03/05/2015 11:01

As a personal choice I totally get wanting to look and feel clean and good in yourself and frankly if I had a hairdresser and make up artist on hand after giving birth I would have jumped at the chance Grin
As it was I had a long hot shower while DH had some baby bonding time and washed my hair because I wanted to feel better.
Didn't do the pj and dressing gown route - personal choice again, just some clean comfy clothes that made me feel good.
HB'd the third time and frankly I just had a bath and slobbed in pj's on the sofa for the whole day!
I think a woman who has just given birth has earned the right to wear whatever the hell she wants tbh.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/05/2015 11:01

Beaufort- stop it!WinkGrin

Hakluyt · 03/05/2015 11:02

Quick, straightforward labour with exactly who she wanted supporting her, hair and makeup teams and dresser on standby. 5 minutes in the public eye, 10 minutes drive home. Collect megabucks. What's not to like?

MrsJohnHarrison · 03/05/2015 11:03

Beau - my DD was 8lb 13oz & looked about 2 months old when she was born. After a bath, she looked much the same as the new royal baby.
Except much much more beautiful Wink

BeaufortBelle · 03/05/2015 11:08

I think the new baby looks like the Queen. No, not you LaQueen, if you're still about Grin.

MrsRossPoldark · 03/05/2015 11:12

I can't even remember what I wore to go home after my 3 DSs! I was spaced out! Tshirt & track pants?!

I do think there must be a place for a post-partum hairdressing service as it would make any new Mum feel so much better? After (nothing to do with pregnancy) serious surgery the best experience was a nurse who helped me shower, washed my hair & dried it for me. Just lovely and very touching as she did it voluntarily.

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 03/05/2015 11:25

My DD looked about 3 weeks old by the time we left hospital 4 hours after the birth too, everyone commented on it. We walked to a local cafe for lunch when she was less than 24 hours old and everyone was shocked she had only been born the day before. Promise I didn't use a surrogate!

fatlazymummy · 03/05/2015 11:45

She looked great.
I wouldn't have dreamt of coming home in a dressing gown and slippers. I was fully dressed both times. I didn't have a hairdresser or make up artist but my hair and face was done to my usual standard. Had been showered both times as well.
I always got showered ,dressed, did my hair and a little bit of make up every day when my babies were little. I'd have felt shit sitting round in my nightie all day, but each to their own.

DemelzaandRoss · 03/05/2015 12:13

Agree with Hakluyt!!

VelvetRose · 03/05/2015 12:16

She may be a naturally groomed sort of person like my sil. She always looks gorgeous and well put together no matter what she's doing! She's a lovely person as well so would never judge anyone else who felt differently.

JohnCusacksWife · 03/05/2015 12:24

Not everyone's comfortable slobbing out in PJs, are they? After DD1 I hated being in my PJs and having visitors. Felt really vulnerable somehow. So when I had DD2 I took comfy day clothes into the hospital. Some of the staff were a bit Hmm about it though for some reason!

susannahmoodie · 03/05/2015 12:39

What was odd was that she looked much much more 'done' than after George. Her hair has been curled whereas after George it looked much more natural, and yesterday she had loads more makeup on than after George, but maybe it was because it was the summer and she was tanned and wearing lighter makeup....

It just struck me that it was even more formal somehow? But then She also looked more relaxed and confident this time....which is maybe just because it wasn't pfb? When I saw her with George I thought she looked happy but also completely overwhelmed and emotionally

Southamerica · 03/05/2015 15:22

Well she knows what she's doing this time around so understandable that she's a lot more confident and not so overwhelmed.

They both looked gorgeous, baby and mum. I keep looking at the picture on the front of the Sunday Times and thinking ooooh I would love to have a little cuddle with a newborn baby. I had premature twins by emergency c section without any happy bit immediately afterwards and I often wonder what that must be like.

Very happy for them all Smile.

Greythorne · 03/05/2015 17:32

I think she must have been stung by the comments on her rounded tummy when she left hospital with George. It was quite a thing in the press and on MN at the time.

Last time she was wearing wedge sandals which were high but unremarkable, just summer sandals really and a blue dress that showed her post partum shape. This time she has ramped up the polish factor: court shoes, more distinctive dress, hair much more styled.
