To be offended by the use of this word in many threads?

I am new to MN and tbh I am shocked by the regular use of the C word in many threads, using it as a term of abuse for (very often) men who have behaved appalingly towards their partners. It's not that I am against swearing in general, it just seems odd that a community of forward thinking supportive women would choose to use a word that actually means a normal, natural, sacred part of female anatomy to describe such vile and reprehensible men. Can anyone think of a creative alternative word to use instead?

When I first joined MN a few years ago, a poster mentioned that her neighbor's wifi was named "My neighbour is a cunt." That was when I realized that the word resonates a bit differently in the UK than it does in the US.

Actually, I see your point, OP. I too don't get your description of the female sex organ, as many other posters have commented, but I think the use of the C word to describe a man who treats women badly is deeply misogynistic. So, yes, it's surprising to hear it from women on MN.

OP, it is your feminist duty to reclaim the cunt. Until women everywhere use it in everyday parlance, it will remain a word that has been fetishised by the patriarchy and used against us.

I think it's rather silly. And most people using it would probably not approve if their DC's started using the word as an insult.

It does seem more appropriate to call dickwad men dicks, pricks or cocks, rather than cunts. Cunt (or twat) being about the worst things they can call each other, because it refers to our bits rather than theirs.
