okay, so i'm old.. but i don't get the you tube and vloging thing thing. my youngest dd [15] has been following a well known you tuber connor franta and sends messages to him on twitter, he has sent back a message direct to her and now she has gained over a 1000 likes because of the message she sent that he liked and responded to !!!! it all happened within a couple of hours, she's star struck, i'm gob smacked and 100s of young people want her to put in good word for them with the man of the moment, so he might contact them too, crazy or what ? i have expect fans peering through the window when i'm doing the washing up and her getting asked for autographs at school several people who know her have retweeted it and face booked it too, she is probably known about in darkest peru and outer mongolia as i type this.
but i still don't get it am i being dim or something ? [be gentle i'm a facebook. social media virgin] !

No one is going to explain this to the op, me and a couple of others are they?!

Heels99 · 02/05/2015 17:31

Yes you are being Dim. She is not a celebrity. But no doubt she is pleased with the temporary attention so don't spoil it for her!

mrsfuzzy · 02/05/2015 18:41

i posted it up as it's all so daft and stupid, it's not meant to be taken seriously, lighten up !

OP posts:
Stitchintime1 · 02/05/2015 18:48

What does any of it mean? I understand it's great for your daughter and Mr Connor but what does it mean? A tweeting conversation was liked by some other people? Is 1000 a lot? Actually, is it great? What in fact is it?

Stitchintime1 · 02/05/2015 18:49

Ah, your tone was quite gushy so it made you sound serious about it rather than amused and ironic. I still don't know what it is though.

NorbertDentressangle · 02/05/2015 18:59

I don't get it either but 15 DD spends ages watching YouTube vloggers, reading their tweets etc.

She's been retweeted and had her tweets favourited by Tanya Burr, Alfie Deyes and Zoella and was stupidly excited by it when it happened and had her "15 minutes" (ie. her friends were impressed) but, you know, ....today's news is tomorrows chip paper! It's all so fast moving.

Do you think he actually answered or he had a member of his media entourage to do it for him?

Stitchintime1 · 02/05/2015 19:10

I don't know who he is but I reckon my daughter would probably have loved it doo.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 02/05/2015 19:13

I made a Twitter account when I was 15 and responded to something smug Ashley Cole said and got hundreds of retweets Grin. I deleted the account shortly after Angry I could be a star by now!

Gralick · 02/05/2015 19:24

Hmm. Just checked; I have 32 followers!!! Go me! I only tweet about once a quarter, though, so it shows some people (32) will follow any old crap Wink

stuckonchapterone · 02/05/2015 19:27

People (especially young girls / boys) obsess over these Youtube people, they see them as more relatable, as essentially they have built their own fame. Not for me, but I can understand the fascination, particularly as many celebrities hardly interact with their fans..

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 02/05/2015 19:31

My 8 year old is obsessed with YouTube, wish he would stop watching 5 nights of freddy, plus the other vloggers.

Evan Hd i one of his favourite, he is a little boy who reviews toys and builds Lego sets.

A 1000 likes is nothing, I bet there is more kids in a high school

LilQueenie · 02/05/2015 19:36

its hardly viral. its only likes. calm down.

Doobydoo · 02/05/2015 19:41

ShakeyGrini know that so well! And am taking ds8 to Minecon in July so might gave a feckin word or two with him and his matesSmile

JoffreyBaratheon · 02/05/2015 21:40

One of my sons is 20, a bit of a clothes horse and (apparently) is "Tumblr famous". He gets recognised by total strangers in clubs and bars. I don't even know his name on there.

TrollshaveLittleWillies · 02/05/2015 22:05

OP It was obvious your OP was lighthearted. I'm a bit Confused Hmm that so many posters took it so seriously.

mrsfuzzy · 02/05/2015 22:34

thank you trollshave at least someone on here has a brain ! i am amused by how serious everyone is taking this, i think the whole youtube/face book thing is pretty crap full stop and i don't understand why people get so hooked on it, dd thinks its funny as does the entire family.
chill out mnetters!

See now that was rude, mrsfuzzy. You say you don't understand any of it, how it works and yet you and supposedly your daughter, now think it's all crap... as stitch said, you did sound a bit gushy and your daughter a bit starstruck... still, glad you enjoyed.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 03/05/2015 00:53

Did anyone else read the 'histogram' typo and get all excited thinking it was like instagram for historical stuff and you could chat and gossip about history??

Then feel crushing disappointment when it turned out to be an error?

I must get out more.

UncleT · 03/05/2015 01:19

YABU.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/05/2015 01:34

How could you be lighthearted about these YouTubers OP. This is serious stuff!

madwomanbackintheattic · 03/05/2015 01:50

I took 10 forrin teenagers to the UK last year. One of them spent the 6 mos prior to the trip fantasizing that some youtuber or other was going to turn up and they would live happily ever after < and presumably I was going to be left explaining to her mother why I hadn't brought her dd home>.

Do you think we'll see him? Do you think we'll meet him?

Erm. No.

It was quite sweet. But a bit 'do you know princess Diana?'

BuzzardBird · 03/05/2015 18:18

Yeah, right. Wink
