My partner, who I love very much, is starting her own business but not yet earning very much money.

I am working in London, it's the only way I could find decent work. I pay all the bills and the mortgage, and come home at the weekend.

My partner is buying a sandwich at work. She is also ordering two takeaways a week. I imagine she is paying about £60 a week. I live on baked beans on toast when I'm at home.

AIBU to be irritated by this? I don't want to sound like the sort of man that sees himself as the breadwinner or to try to control what she does when I'm not there. I don't mind us buying a takeaway at weekends as a treat.

How do I talk to her about it?

OP isn't at home during the week for them to meal plan / eat together.

Solved through dialogue. We had a chat over breakfast. She knows we're spending beyond our means, so later we're going to write a spreadsheet of all our outgoings together and work out what we can afford.
It was really, really easy.

How disappointingly grown-up Grin

YANBU at all. Sorry, but if you're broke, you don't buy takeaways or sandwiches everyday, no matter how tired you are Hmm It's totally unfair for one partner to be eating take-out and ready made lunches when the other is having to eat beans on toast.

It takes ten minutes to make pasta or bung a jacket potato in the microwave or make stir-fry. Yes, she's busy but £60 a week is over £200 a month just on ready meals for one person! That's more than my budget for two adults and two cats for a month.
