I love pulling out bristly eyebrow hairs and tickling my upper lip with the end of it. That's really weird isn't. Please join in and make me feel better about myself...

I just remembered another one- if I have a cold and need to breathe through my mouth, I chew my tongue. It's like I can't open my mouth to breathe without propping it open with my tongue between my teeth!

Holden10 · 01/05/2015 08:59

I love blowing the hairdryer really close to my skin so that it burns and moving it away just as it starts to hurt. The thought of it is making me want to leap out of bed and do it now!!

I am another who bites the skin of the inside of my cheeks and my lips. Bleeds and looks awful but it's so satisfying!

Holden10 · 01/05/2015 19:54

I killed the thread Grin

SarfEasticatedMumma · 01/05/2015 19:58

No you didn't - I just think we exhausted the topic - we're a small but select group Wink
Thanks everyone for making me fetl normal - it doesn't happen often!

Another cheek chomper here, I always used to get told off for chewing gum in class at school. I then used to get another telling off for talking back when I tried to explain I was eating my own cheek...

TiggyD · 01/05/2015 20:07

No. None.

ByEck · 01/05/2015 20:09

Ha ha OP, I clicked on your thread thinking I bet no-one else pulls eye brow bristles between their fingernails an tickles their lip with them. I got them waxed for the first time the other day, but the ones I'd been pissing about with were too short. Now they're like suspension bridge cables

ByEck · 01/05/2015 20:19

shellsocks, I'm also a syllable counter.

And Blush a prolific nose picker. I can't bear having anything in there. DH is too though, so that's OK Grin

shellsocks · 02/05/2015 00:21

ByEckso there's two of us Grin It's so odd, I'd love to know why I did it?!

Shakey1500 · 02/05/2015 09:44

Speaking of nose picking...

You know when you get a really crusty one which, when you pick it out, stings like a bastard, eye wateringly so, then recrusts again and again?

I bloody love these Smile I love the sensation of "hooking" a piece with fingernail and the feeling of it coming away.

Je suis gross.

SaucyJack · 02/05/2015 10:18

Another one is when I'm in the car and I tap my toes when the vertical line of the window frame is equidistant between two lampposts.

It's the little things that make life worth living.

Nagasaki · 02/05/2015 10:24

I'm a tongue chewer. There's an accompanying noise which gets louder the more 'satisfying' the chew Blush

The sides of my tongue look like someone's taken a cheese grater to it Confused

Dowser · 02/05/2015 10:39

I'm a people counter.

If I'm in a room listening to a lecture I like to do a head count!

Don't know why. I'm not nervous anything.

I also would like to lay claim to having the cleanest ears on mumsnet thanks to my habit of always cleaning them with a cotton bud!

SarfEasticatedMumma · 02/05/2015 11:34

byeck welcome sister. Wonder why we do it! I think we need a psychologist to come over here and tell us why we do it - come and make us feel normal please?

I also like to unmix food I'm eating - a bag of mixed nuts will be split into kinds, skittles into colour order, packed lunches also have to fit perfectly into boxes. Am happy with mess in all other areas - but my food needs to be ordered.

I think the pp who compared it to pets who overgroom themselves due to stress and end up with bald patches may have had a point. I definitely do it when feeling agitated

LittleIda · 02/05/2015 11:38

Sorry was talking about trichotillomania there.

SaucyJack · 02/05/2015 11:57

Skittles MUST be lined up and eaten in the colour order of the spectrum.

SarfEasticatedMumma · 02/05/2015 12:15

That was my learned hypothesis littleIda. I wonder if it's because our lives are so different to our natural state, sat at desks all day, too much pressure in our daily lives, not enough exercise. I must say I would feel much more well balanced if I lived near a beach or a park and could do something practical with my time.

I pull of the fine hairs out from under my left boob......dont ask me why....not interested in the right lol

RaggyAnnie · 02/05/2015 12:18

I'm a syllable counter! I have many other counting habits, panes in windows, tiles on walls etc.

AlwaysAFool · 02/05/2015 12:42

I didnt think boob holding was weird.
I do it when sitting watching t.v mine arent big so literally hold the whole boob.

Im a lip biter I have an abcess type split lip which wont ever go away completely and when it flares up I bite it, has a satisfactory pain But not very attractive.

Crusty eye watering nose picker too.
Spot picker face neck and back.

When I wss younger I used to crick my neck all the time was horrie to try and break the habit as literally had to fight the urge to do it.
Same wrists.

KentonArcher · 02/05/2015 23:31

I also count my footsteps, often without realising. Sometimes I get back to work at lunchtime and realise I'm on 1,265 and can't remember where I began ....

Tootsiepops · 03/05/2015 00:00

Reformed hair puller. I forced myself to stop when I made a little bald patch on the back of my head.

I rock back and forth when watching tv. My husband asks me if I am a rescued Romanian orphan :(

I can't get to sleep without rubbing the top of my feet back and forth on the sheets. I find it soothing and comforting.

Rinoachicken · 03/05/2015 00:38

OMG saucyjack I do the car thing!

It was worse when I was younger; everytime a lamppost or sign went by I would clench either my left or right thigh muscles, so we'd be going along and is be clenching my legs alternately. I don't hink my parents ever knew, or if they did they didn't say anything.

Now I clench my toes instead, but usually only when I'm really stressed or worried about anything.

I also rub my skin with my fingers, either on my chest, face or back of my neck - bits of skin/moisturiser/makeup etc form under my fingers like really tiny skinny sausages and I roll it into a tiny ball between my fingers and then drop it and start again. Blush gross I know.

I'm also a lip picker and eyebrow puller as well.

AmyElliotDunne · 03/05/2015 00:50

Another cheek chewer here. My parents used to think I was really weird and xh would take the piss out of my funny faces. When I met DP I found out he does it too, and he even helps me if he sees that Im chewing a particularly long way back, he'll smoosh my cheek o help me bite it!
