Flaming Banks

Is it unreasonable in this day and age when I have paid for a Chaps payment that, when the bank withhold my money as they think it is an error, they say it will take them up to 5 working days to get it to my account?

Seriously it should be there within a few hours at the most!

The most worrying part is the guy on the phone said the solicitors had made a mistake paid twice and he was going to cancel my money in the account before I told him I would actually like to keep what was mine!

If there were mistakes in the payment order they can't just apply it - they open an investigation, send a swift message to the ordering bank - who open an investigation, confirm the correct payment details to the beneficiary bank who then review and apply as instructed, so each step could take a day and in big banks I imagine that there are large volumes to work through and they have to comply with regulations.

The guy on the phone admitted that the details were right but because some came directly and some indirectly they decided the indirect amount was a duplicate. So didn't pay it.

He agreed he would transfer it to my account and said it would take up to 5 days. He didn't say anything about an investigation.

Lucky I have backup to get me over the end/beginning of the month before I will get my money.

That's disgraceful. If the details were correct, they made a wrong decision so complain in writing, it's clearly their mistake. (When they decidied the indirect amount was a duplicate) Why should you be penalised by having to wait FIVE days for your money.? Banking ombudsman? They should make a goodwill payment to you for the inconvenience.
