To be pissed off with my sonography today

I am currently pregnant with dc3. Having not found out with the other two what we were having, we were determined not to this time either. So despite needing various extra scans, having an amnio etc, we've so far managed to not find out the gender.

Until today. Despite the sonography remarking how unusual it was to have had all these extra tests and not find out, he then went on to say 'if you don't want to know, look away now, because it's very obvious!' So I duly closed my eyes but of course that effing stupid comment means I am having a boy. Which is fine, I am delighted to have a boy and mostly given all the tests, I am just delighted he is ok. But I am bloody pissed off by the unnecessary comment that has made it so obvious when I didn't want to know! Aibu, or just pregnant and hormonal?!

The absence of a boy bit would also be very obvious to be fair......

mrschatty · 29/04/2015 18:36

I know it's a long shot....maybe she ment lack of willie?? The big pink bow in her hair? Ha Aw op she was very tactless and I'm sorry about that :( x

AuntyMag10 · 29/04/2015 18:36

I think Yabu, it really could mean either.

KittyandTeal · 29/04/2015 18:37

I wouldn't say so, both my dd were pretty obvious to me. Could quite clearly see 3 lines.

Surely it would be obvious it's a girl seeing the absence of a penis too? (I have no experience of boys I'm afraid)

LittleMissRayofHope · 29/04/2015 18:37

Could just mean that baby was in a position of legs wide open for all the world to see.... But yes, I can see your logic there.

HoneyDragon · 29/04/2015 18:38

Could mean either. On scans at that stage with dd it was bloody obvious she was a girl.

arethereanyleftatall · 29/04/2015 18:38

Eh? Yabu. That could mean anything. Lack of willy, big willy, big vulva....

arethereanyleftatall · 29/04/2015 18:39

I think our sonographer said to us that the girls genitals are easier to see than my boys.

TheWitTank · 29/04/2015 18:40

I would say it's equally obvious when it's a girl -perhaps more so. So I wouldn't set your mind on a boy at this stage! Congratulations on your healthy baby, he OR she!

nutelladipper · 29/04/2015 18:40

I was told the same. Bought boy clothes. We had a girl! Shock

lemonyone · 29/04/2015 18:40

I don't know.
When I looked at the screen for mine it was obvious it was a girl because the ultrasound was right up between her legs and it looked like (for want of a better description) a hamburger.

I wouldn't assume it's definitely a boy with that information. And if the rest of the ultrasound went well and was thorough and reassuring I think it's a bit much to be so pissed off about that. I'm sure there are better ways of putting it but you have so much to be happy about that this is a very minor thing. Having had terrible worries during the ultrasound for my DS I would say this rates a 1 in a scale of 1-10 of bad things during sonography.

Congratulation on your baby.

Dawndonnaagain · 29/04/2015 18:41

It was very, very obvious what twin dds were. Just saying, could still go either way...

TarkaTheOtter · 29/04/2015 18:41

Sorry but I agree with you Op. I haven't found out with either of mine. First pregnancy was never told to look away and it was a girl. Second I was told to look away at every scan and it was a boy.

ShadowFire · 29/04/2015 18:41

It doesn't necessarily mean it's a boy.

DS2, for instance, when we had the 20 week scan, was clearly visible on the screen in a full frontal, legs spread wide apart pose. And while it was very obvious that he was a boy, the lack of a penis would also have been very obvious if it had been a girl in that position.

monkeysaymoo · 29/04/2015 18:42

Meh could have meant either. If he hadn't have told you too look away and you saw it for yourself you would moan that he hadn't told you to look away.

Like you said healthy baby is all that matters

UpSeeDaisies · 29/04/2015 18:42

Thanks all - yes maybe it would be obvious to him (I have no experience of girls so wouldn't know!) but always assumed a willy would be more obvious iyswim. And obviously I mean sonographER - damn autocorrect! Surely they should be experienced enough to know just keep the trap shut!! Angry

As Pp have said I wouldn't worry about it too much either. After having 3 boys in a row it was obvious to me that this one is a girl.. I spotted it straight away.. still go with the 'neutral' wardrobe etc as even though you felt you were led to believe it's a boy you could well be wrong. Smile

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 29/04/2015 18:43

I wouldn't assume that "it's very obvious" means a boy. on a clear scan it could just as "obviously" be a girl!

monkeysaymoo · 29/04/2015 18:43

There in the business of checking the babies health not facilitating a fluffy experience for the mummy and daddy seriously it really doesn't matter

UpSeeDaisies · 29/04/2015 18:44

Well boys clothes are all saved and sorted so a boy will save me a fortune. Not sure I'll ever look at a burger in the same way though lemon Grin

lemonyone · 29/04/2015 18:45

What monkey moo said.

I think it's unnecessary to say a professional should 'keep their trap shut'.

5madthings · 29/04/2015 18:45

My sonograoher said the same, I assumed that meant boy, especially as I already had four boys. No 5 was in fact a girl. So it can still mean either.

WhiffleSqueak · 29/04/2015 18:45

my parents had a similar experience when expecting me. they didn't want to find out but my mum accidentally read "boy" on some notes that the doctor had made to himself.

what that says about my vulva I do not knowBlush

lemonyone · 29/04/2015 18:45

Oh, now I sound really po-faced. Sorry.
