It just upsets me too much and makes me feel useless. I've already given a donation.

I just feel like it doesn't affect me so I shouldn't feel the need to see all the brutal details as it doesn't achieve anything.

OP posts:
ihatethecold · 29/04/2015 07:14

You're brave typing this!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 29/04/2015 07:16

I don't think I could clear that with my conscience.

Turning a blindd eye is a dangerous, dangerous game.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 29/04/2015 07:17

YANBU to turn off anything that upsets you. It's not wrong to feel useless in the face of something so catastrophic, or to want to avoid reporting of the devastation and misery.
You've given a donation, so you've done what you feel you can.

Koalafications · 29/04/2015 07:19

It just upsets me too much

I just feel like it doesn't affect me

Well, these are two quite conflicting statements aren't they... Confused

chocolatelife · 29/04/2015 07:21

you Need to know OP.
there is life outside of yours

TheRealKatieHopkins · 29/04/2015 07:21

Of you're nbu. It is truly horrific.

And I don't see how "turning a blind eye" to the devasting effects of a natural disaster is "dangerous".

MackerelOfFact · 29/04/2015 07:23

Whether or not you watch the coverage isn't going to change anything for those so sadly affected. :(

You've donated, which is the only thing you can do really. Watching coverage that is at best upsetting or at worse downright mawkish won't make any difference.

I can't watch it either, to be honest.

Kampeki · 29/04/2015 07:23

The OP said she has already made a donation. It isn't mandatory to watch all the news reports.

My problem is that I can't switch off. :(

Sirzy · 29/04/2015 07:25

I have been watching the news but I think some of the coverage goes way to far and goes from being informative to being intrusive.

You are aware what has happened and of the massive scale impacts. You have done something to help. Watching the news or not won't change anything.

chiefbrody · 29/04/2015 07:26

I turn it off cause I am not interested.

I will be glad when kate and williams baby is born because it will replace the coverage.

Feckeggblue · 29/04/2015 07:26

I agree your news watching isn't any sort of contribution to the situation

richthegreatcornholio · 29/04/2015 07:28

I turn it off cause I am not interested.

Me too, I really couldn't care less

Kampeki · 29/04/2015 07:30

Me too, I really couldn't care less

Please tell me you're being ironic rich?

Chippednailvarnish · 29/04/2015 07:31

Wow less than 24 hours on MN and you've posted this. Hmm

JazzAnnNonMouse · 29/04/2015 07:32

Wow I'm shocked that people 'couldn't care less' that human beings are suffering so much.
Would you care if it were in this country?

I can't watch it as I find it v upsetting and also feel v useless.

chocolatelife · 29/04/2015 07:33

you should watch it though, the news changes. I didnt want to watch it but did, only to find the changes. obviously you dont ahve to watch it eveyr day and it is tempting to think, It is Over There

londonrach · 29/04/2015 07:33

Im kinda get where you coming from. However the reports are needed to let the world know nepal needs help.

VictoriaPeckem · 29/04/2015 07:33

YANBU.
There is absolutely nothing most of us can do other than make a monetary donation if we wish.
Watching or listening to the endless reports about it is just grief surfing. No point in wringing our hands about a natural catastrophe that has happened thousands of miles from us to people we don't know.

Eigg · 29/04/2015 07:35

Some breathtakingly callous posts on here.

The OP can choose to watch as much or little coverage as she likes, her personal choice.

I'm fairly shocked that people feel it necessary to go to the effort of posting to say that they lack humanity.

londonrach · 29/04/2015 07:35

Did they get everyone off everest? Have they gone into the countryside yet. Those poor people.

chiefbrody · 29/04/2015 07:35

There is tragic stuff happening all over the world every single day.

People being murdered raped and killed for reasons we in a GREAT country would never kill for.....

People being stoned and people being forced to take drugs and then trafficked around the world.... Kids being harmed in all sorts of horriric ways.

This is just another incident and I cannot and will not bring my life down thinking about them.... I would have a nervous breakdown taking it all on my shoulders when there is nothing I can do..

richthegreatcornholio · 29/04/2015 07:35

Please tell me you're being ironic rich?

No interest whatsoever.

If you've made a donation then you've done more than most.

The damage is equivalent to 20%GDP. In the UK that would be around $600Bn.

I think it's not unreasonable to protect oneself from upset, so long as that doesn't mean ignoring one's moral responsibilities.
