Just had to turn down an operation as I wouldn't be able to look after myself during the recovery period. They were incredulous. I see other people in the same boat in the world - doesn't anyone else?

You could get shopping delivered by ordering online or try those meals that you can get delivered ready made that you just microwave like Wiltshire farm foods, they are mean't to be really good. if you ned help with personal care like showering then social services or your community Nurse should be able to help arrnage care.

No practical advise to offer - but yes I think it's bad enough not having tons of family support - which can unfortunately happen to the best of people through circumstances beyond their control without being made to feel guilty and uncomfortable about being in this predicament by a health care professional who from what you said offered no practical solutions !!!

when people live a long distance from relatives (which is quite common) or have a small number of relatives or their relatives work or are old or infirm or died early or are estranged etc etc then it's actually very easy to end up in this situation - truth is lots of people may be in these circumstances it just doesn't become an issue until their is a crisis.
