Who is going to look after Orville now?

I wish I could fly, right up to the sky but I can't.

You can.

I can't.

Anyone remember him?

I was going to start a thread as couldn't find this.

He was such a professional. I worked with him several times in my earlier years.
RIP, and condolences to his family.

I made my stage debut as a child with Keith and Orville Smile

He was a lovely man.

Sparklingbrook · 28/04/2015 17:47

As a matter of interest why is this an AIBU?

FoulsomeAndMaggotwise · 28/04/2015 17:48

Oh no! I didn't know he was ill. His poor family.

He was a bit ahead of my time but still one of those faces everyone knows.

Last summer we went away to a Haven site near Great Yarmouth. On the second day there I spotted a Mercedes parked outside the caravan opposite with the number plate ORV 1LE and joked to DH that it must've belonged to Keith Harris.

I was beyond excited when later that evening I saw it pull away with Orville in the back and Keith in the passenger seat. It turned out he was doing his adult 'Duck Off' show in the entertainment complex.

I then stationed DH and a couple of the kids by the windows with phones ready to snap a pic when he returned.

I feel bad now as I was watching when he came back and I thought he was a complete diva as he sat in the car until his chauffeur had got out, unlocked the caravan door and then opened the passenger door before Keith got out and went into the caravan. Now of course I realise that his cancer had returned and he probably needed the assistance :(

I was an uber fan of Orville as a kid and spotting him and Keith made my weekend away the kids had no idea who he was and thought I was slightly mental

I never knew he was ill. We saw him last year at Haven - he was really funny. I just told the DC, DS2 replied with "oh no, is it the duck that died or the man?" Once I explained, he then worried about who would look after Orville.

Owllady · 28/04/2015 18:44

Oh what a shame :( rip keith

ForalltheSaints · 28/04/2015 20:16

Only 67 and not long after cancer had returned. RIP

butterflyballs · 29/04/2015 01:11

I spent an evening in his company many years ago and he really was a lovely guy. Extremely funny and great company.

RIP

Sad

I loved Orville and Cuddles the monkey.

Bless him x

There was a repeat of an interesting interview with Keith Harris on radio 4 yesterday, when he talked about his severe dyslexia and how he was made to feel stupid at school. The only thing he succeeded in there was art. His family were all entertainers and his first stage appearance was aged 3 Smile He sounded like a nice chap.

AmeliaPeabody · 29/04/2015 10:18

What sad news

fortyfide · 29/04/2015 11:41

When alive, he got a lot of unfair criticism from comedians. RIP

OnlyLovers · 29/04/2015 12:51

I must say I wasn't a big fan when I was a child; found him and Orville both a bit creepy.

But he's just about the only one of that generation at whom Operation Yewtree didn't point the finger, isn't he? Which I'm glad about. And a real trooper of the old school.

I heard a friend of his (didn't catch who) on the radio yesterday paying tribute. He sounded very shaken up and sad. Said Keith H was a 'true professional'.

Really nice to hear on this thread from people who've seen his shows/worked with him.

RIP Keith.
