Just that really, me and my DP disagree over it!

The worst is tea from a paper cup. Especially if it has had one of those wooden stirrers left in it. Yuk!

lionheart · 25/04/2015 20:16

Yep, there is a whole science involved.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 25/04/2015 20:17

YADNBU.

stevienickstophat · 25/04/2015 20:18

Earl Grey has to be in a white china mug.

Anything else is fine.

WutheringFrights · 25/04/2015 20:19

I have to have my tea in a bone china mug. DH bravely bought me a set for Christmas without any guidance, they are not what I would have chosen but I think they are lovely.
Mug currently contains lemsip, which usually is delivered in a special Mr Men mug Blush but it's in the dishwasher.

Size, shape, texture, colour, all so important.

SwirlyThingAlert · 25/04/2015 20:27

This is so weird, I was thinking the exact same thing this morning as I was having my cup of tea!
It definitely tastes different depending on what mug you have it in. If it's a fine china type one, it just doesn't taste the same (ie anyway near as good) than if it's in a nice big chunky mug.
A million times better!

BumWad · 25/04/2015 20:28

YANBU! Has to be thin and white inside!

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 25/04/2015 20:41

I too have certain mug I use for tea. Well it's not a mug as it got a teapot with a cup under with a saucer

BlueBee · 25/04/2015 20:49

A friend used to serve tea in brown glass mugs, very 1970's, tasted rank.

Crocodopolis · 25/04/2015 20:57

"Size, shape, texture, colour, all so important."

Very true.

mysteryfairy · 25/04/2015 21:03

I make tea by chucking a tea bag in the cup. I have one mug from the RSC which is superior to anything else. My theory is it holds the optimum amount of water for one tea bag.

As another plus the shape and volume of it leads to the tea cooling at exactly the right rate. I may have to visit Stratford to acquire more!

Hamiltoes · 25/04/2015 21:34

I used to think this was mad until I bought one of those kilner glass jars for DDs milkshakes. One day had a full house so made mine in the glass and my mind was blown!!

Now i'll never drink tea in anything else again. And i've got my mum and gran drinking tea from glorified jamjars too Grin

Butteredparsnips · 25/04/2015 22:50

Seventeen I love your statement that bone china makes the tea too wet ha ha. Except that I completely agree with you Grin
There just isn't enough taste in thin mugs. you need a proper builders mug for proper tea.

AtomicDog · 25/04/2015 22:55

Your dp is wrong!

It has to be porcelain or stoneware, with a white inner.

I even have preferences over shape of cup/mug, but sometimes I let that go.

Gimmetaytos · 25/04/2015 22:58

Oh I feel sooo strongly about this! Has to be a thin mug, china and has to be white inside. It ust tastes weird in a mug with colour insideHmm.

Gimmetaytos · 25/04/2015 22:59

Oh that's it Atomic-I meant porcelain.

Mamiof3 · 25/04/2015 23:00

Tea is disgusting

However I can't drink a hot drink out of a stained mug I don't care how special or antique it is. Anything with stains on the inside should be binned

Lagoonablue · 25/04/2015 23:01

China every time for me too.

BillThePony · 25/04/2015 23:13

Has to be white on the inside, tastes horrible otherwise.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/04/2015 02:02

Your DP is BTU OP. I have never said this before, but, perhaps, you should consider LTB!

It's not like he's a terrible person or anything, but how can he not notice the difference?Confused Are you sure you have enough in common to continue a meaningful relationship?

itsveryyou · 26/04/2015 03:02

It must be white inside, preferably thin china, and with no 'cute' butterflies or flowers below brew line to freak me out whilst drinking. Honestly, I'm not generally picky in life, but a mug with brown or blue insides is no bedfellow for tea. I'll willingly travel with my proper cup these days, I'm way too old for silliness and life is too short for unsatisfactory tea. And don't get me started on polystyrene cups...

sugarplumpfairy · 26/04/2015 03:13

I'm a practice nurse and we get a cuppa brought to us sometimes - which i'm grateful for BUT. . . .I cannot bear it when a mug is dark on the inside or has that 'grainy' feel/look . . .

musicalendorphins2 · 26/04/2015 03:21

I always thought bone china cup is best, but now that I think about the white mug thing, it is true, my favorite non china mug for tea is white inside.
