Just that really, me and my DP disagree over it!

Yes! I have 3 or 4 mugs I use and I have different ones at different times of the day.

My first cuppa of the day has to be in a medium fairly thin mug, my lunchtime cup in a slightly thinner and smaller mug and my afternoon one in a thick chunky mug.

It drives dh mad and he now knows if he makes me a cuppa he has to check which cup I want it in otherwise I'll re make it in the correct one!

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2015 17:43

Absolutely. This is why I am going to allowed London for the weekend in a few weeks, to buy some more of the mug I got from the Natural History Museum a couple of years ago. It is perfect shape and size in my hand and the tea made in it is lovely.

marshmallowpies · 25/04/2015 17:44

DH and I have a mug hierarchy, definitely. We both have 3 favourites, and once those 6 are in the dishwasher, we have to use inferior mugs until the dishwasher is full. And DH brings home crappy freebie mugs from conferences that he never uses but won't part with...

BettyCatKitten · 25/04/2015 17:45

Definitely, I have a 'favourite' tea cup!

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2015 17:45

I live about 170 miles away from London. I may be doing other things as well as buying mugs. I appreciate that the NHM shop has a website!

dragdownthemoon · 25/04/2015 17:46

Oh you are totally NBU!! The inside of a mug has to be white. We have these brown mugs which make tea taste horrid. Coffee is fine out of them though. But the optimum mug is definite white on the inside.

It makes me mad when DH makes me a cup of tea in the STUPID PURPLE MUG. It is the worst.

Silvercatowner · 25/04/2015 17:48

Tea has to be in a china mug else it just tastes yuk. It is the shape of the coffee mug that impacts taste (for me), not the stuff it is made of. I only have one 'nice' coffee mug and the handle broke last week.

Salmotrutta · 25/04/2015 17:54

I love the idea of a trip to London to just buy mugs.

Grin

And yes OP you are correct!

Momagain1 · 25/04/2015 18:03

The mug tea was best in got broken. It was one of a pair, hooray! Tat one got broken too. I have gotten used to it in a similiar mug. But if I find the right shape again, i will be so happy!

There is a local coffee shop we get take away coffee at regularly. One day we went in and sat down and had our coffee in cups. It tasted all wrong.

Mehitabel6 · 25/04/2015 18:06

I have my coffee in completely different mugs than tea.

chocoluvva · 25/04/2015 18:07

They've done tests you know....

Perception of taste is influenced by the drinking vessel. --can't think of a better word than 'vessel'.

Def not BU.

How can your partner be so cruelly insensitive?

You're no mug! Grin

blackheartsgirl · 25/04/2015 18:48

I have special tea drinking mugs.

elderflowergin · 25/04/2015 18:54

I am glad I am not the only one...I am very fussy about mugs. I drink my coffee in the morning from either an Emma Bridgewater mug or a Jamie Oliver one (they are the right size and shape), then I drink earl grey tea later on in the day from a China cup (but not too thin). I have a China mug with reindeers on that I was given for Christmas which is perfect for lapsang souchong. It's all about the shape for me, and it does need to be white inside. Where I work they all reuse the same mug all day without washing them out, and I think that they think I am a bit precious for always washing up my mug in between drinks Grin.

Hulababy · 25/04/2015 18:55

I don't like my tea served in a glass mug/cup - it's just wrong.

seventeen · 25/04/2015 18:55

I've just bought myself a new special mug, as my old special mug was chipped and not really big enough.

My new mug was lovingly shopping for at John Lewis, and is an oversized pale mug with a chicken on. The tea hits the spot every time.

Bone china makes the tea too wet.

Tall thin mugs just aren't big enough. I need more than a tablespoonful of tea.

VolumniaDedlock · 25/04/2015 18:58

I like my tea (earl grey) in a white mug (can have a pattern though), in a thin bone china. Coffee in a thicker rimmed mug, can be earthenware or china, but still white based. The mugs with dark coloured insides o leave for DH.

couldthisbeit · 25/04/2015 19:03

You are so not BU! Glad to have found some kindred spirits as DP just does not get it and sometimes my tea eventually comes in the desired mug but is accompanied by an eye roll and a sulky puff.
Totally agree on white inside. Should be thin but not too thin. Slightly curved mug shape, not too big, and thin.
Actually, written down I can see why DP thinks I am a fusspot.

Royalsighness · 25/04/2015 19:05

YANBU! My mug is a big one that has "TOP DAD" written on it, it bothers my husband when I drink out of it because it was his, but tea just tastes great out of it

AmyElliotDunne · 25/04/2015 19:13

It does taste different! I can't drink out of a coloured (inside) mug as the tea doesn't taste of anything. I also prefer a bigger diameter (maybe so the aroma gets up my nose and the steam warms it up )

MagelanicClouds · 25/04/2015 19:19

I had this demonstrated to me at a whisky taste test.
It smelt and tasted different out of different shaped glasses. Can't remember the science, am a bit of a lightweight! Blush
The same thing does apply to tea. My favourite mug is DJ's and he gets quite territorial about it. I have to bleach the tea stains out quite regularly.

Mrsbobdylan · 25/04/2015 19:58

Fucking hell you're so right op! Bone China makes tea too hot whereas a mug which isthe same diameter from top to bottom and isn't too tall makea the perfect cup of tea.

royalsighness my dh drinks from a mug my friend gave me which says 'a good friend is like a supportive bra...' then has a cartoon of an older woman doing a handstand. It always makes me chuckle but he just likes the shape of the mug I think

GraysAnalogy · 25/04/2015 20:07

Can't drink tea from a mug. Which is surprising really because I'll drink wine out of a mug if needs must...

GraysAnalogy · 25/04/2015 20:08

I have to drink out of this cup. I have 8 of them, one at work and one at my mums too Blush

To think that the choice of mug greatly affects the taste of tea
GraysAnalogy · 25/04/2015 20:10

DP drinks out of this and it's huge. It annoys the living daylights out of me because it takes 2 tea bags and a shed load of milk. How he lifts it to his mouth without spilling I don't know
