To ask for some reassurance...convinced I have cervical cancer

I think the response may be that I'm being ridiculous. I've had some pain, and intermittent bleeding for the past couple of months, and I have now convinced myself that I have cervical cancer.

I have a smear booked for Monday. My symptoms are just a normal part of being a woman though, right? I have nothing to worry about?

Have you had a smear before?

momb · 24/04/2015 12:49

Very likely to be a normal part of being a woman. We change. We continue developing and changing right through our lives. You are right to get it checked out. Certainly it is too soon to worry about anything as drastic as cancer!

You are probably fine but what do you mean by intermittent bleeding? Between periods or after sex?

shewept · 24/04/2015 12:51

Hmm i would love to tell you, you are ridiculous.

But you can't be too careful though, you are doing the right thing getting checked. I went through a similar situation a year ago and the waiting was awful. I was so relieved when the letter came through, i feel asleep. I didn't sleep for weeks. I was 100% convinced I had it. Then it turned out i was wrong.

Try your best to be positive and distract yourself as much as possible.

Agree with pp that if you have any kind of worries about this stuff you get yourself checked over immediately. You're booked in, you've got your appointment, you just need to keep busy and not dwell on it too much.

There could be dozens of reasons for intermittent bleeding, Google-doctoring yourself never helps, so stay away from 'helpful' websites. Flowers though, it can be worrying when your body does stuff like that.

Please don't worry, though I know it's easier said than done. I had those symptoms 2 years ago, but also pelvic pain, pain when having sex, bleeding, back pain and inflammation. I ended up having an ultrasound scan, was utterly convinced I had cancer, and it turned out to be nothing of the sort. If I recall correctly it was something to do with my pill. yet I worried myself sick for weeks Thanks

Did you get to the bottom of this?x
