Some posters write a bloody essay when a couple of lines would get to their point.

Yes, but if they ONLY make their point, and then in response to questions or challenges they keep posting more detail they are snidely accused of drip feeding, contradicting theemselves or even of making it up as they go along. The essay rarely prevents this, but that's probably why many do it.

As for no paragraphs: I long ago noticed that access to the internet is no guarantee of basic literacy, nor familiarity with keyboards.
