To wear white to a wedding?

Am on a budget and have seen a broderie anglaise knee length dress that is understated and not 'wedding dressy' at all that would be wearable for other things as a summer dress. I could add a belt or sash to break up the colour along with bright accessories. Is it still considered a massive faux pas to wear white?

I wore cream and black to a wedding once. It was a nice dress and I felt lovely in it. I wasn't the bride but you could tell who the bride was.

OP - go for the dress, team it with bright accessories, just avoid the colours of the bridesmaids. You have to feel comfortable in whatever you're wearing and if you can wear it again afterwards - bonus.

People wore all kinds to my wedding and to be honest I couldn't give two figs. I was too happy and excited to notice. Just glad that everyone turned up to help us celebrate. People get too hung up on little things!!

OP, what size are you? I've got quite a few wedding style nice dresses gathering dust in my wardrobe....

Oops, just read full thread, fat face one is lovely too x

Six months later and I'm not totally over the fact that MIL wore a half navy/half white suit to our wedding but stood side on so in the photos she is in white. I would always stick to florals/pastels/brights for a wedding.

123Jump; about a 14 and curvy! Am going to order the Fatface one into store today so I can try it next week as they don't have it in that branch but may need another dress for the 2nd wedding. Will check out the other links suggested thanks everyone!

If it's linen it might be a bit creasy Let me know and I'll decide whether to buy it :o

By the way, my SIL wore see through creased white trousers and a cerise top to my wedding. IMO that was bad manners!

Some lovely recommendations for dresses sneakily takes note.

I hope you have a lovely time OP. Two weddings in one week to attend, lucky you. Can't remember the last time I went to a wedding, DD plaintively remarked last week she has never once been to one.

I saw the thread title and wondered if it was about Andy Murray's mum wearing a cream coat and mink coloured dress to his wedding the other weekend. She looked very smart but that shade of cream looked very close to white in certain pictures.

Check out the Roman originals link also Op I thought it was real old lady stuff but I'm same size as you and just bought a lovely couple of wedding outfits both under 50 pounds.

Have fun

Laughing at those saying 'don't wear black'

I've worn black to a wedding. It was a winter wedding and I wore a gorgeous floor length black dress. Funny thing was, two of the other guests had very similar black dresses... and we were the three single friends. Wonder if that says something...Hmm

Back to you though OP - this dress is similar to the one you were thinking of, and not white dress

Hester; yes I did think about that - not a huge fan of linen for that reason and the only time I use an iron is for a horse show and even then my shirt's hidden under a jacket which hides my rubbish ironing ability! Will try it and see and ask for refund in store if no good!

RudeBarb; excellent thanks! Like that!
