Pissing in the gutter.

I was in a shop today and I bumped into a friend and her 3 and a half year old child. Child announces she needs a wee so mum takes her out of the shop and lets her wee in the gutter. If it's relevant, child has been potty trained since 14 months.

Aibu to think that weeing in the gutter is wrong, unless you're pissed? Disclaimer, my dc are both still in nappies. I'd quite like to hear that this is acceptable as it could make potty training easier!

Oh and we've had it in the park too. Luckily at that point I sit ill carried nappy sacks, so was able to whip one out and strategically place it to catch it!

5-7 minutes away for a 3 year old... ..yes I would.

Dd is 4 and hopeless at holding pee in sometimes. I don't think she'd have made a 5-7 minute 'wiggly wee walk' tbh but I always have spare pants and leggings so if have changed her once we got to the loo.

On the other hand at the big park last week Ds was off playing and dd came over wiggling desperate for a pee so I took her behind a tree. There were toilets nearby but I couldn't see Ds and I couldn't leave him alone whilst I went.

ScrambedEggAndToast · 21/04/2015 22:21

It wouldn't bother me to be honest. Those days are well behind me but I'm pretty sure I used to do the same when DS was little. I remember once when he was about 3 or 4 we had queued up for about 20 minutes for the changing rooms in New Look. The second we got in the cubicle he said "I need a wee". No way was I leaving so I got him to do a wee in a fruit shoot bottle Grin Benefits of having a boy.

Stopandlook · 21/04/2015 22:22

Is it any worse than dog pee (clearly ok?)

I ask because my dd is going through a stubborn hold it in til I'm desperate stage and we've had to do a few tree wees (not in town though luckily)

lemonyone · 21/04/2015 22:25

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. To me, before the age of around 6 all children's wee is fairly inoffensive. Not sure why.

Of course it's better to go to the loo, but with my DS when he was that age, there was only about 2 mins between saying he needed to go and full on piss-pants. I would definitely have used the gutter.

lemonyone · 21/04/2015 22:26

Yep - and we do do quite a few park wee-s as at the moment all the municipal loos are not yet open.

Pancakeflipper · 21/04/2015 22:30

We do it. My eldest has a bladder issue and we are experts at finding undergrowth/trees etc for him to have a 'secret wee' .

And I think I am developing a phobia to public loos after the last ones we went in. Blurghhhhh. I couldn't wee in some public loos.

WizardofSnoz · 21/04/2015 22:33

I think it's fine as long as the child is too young to be embarrassed. I would find a quiet corner though rather than gutter dangling.

I was made to do it when I was old enough to be embarrassed and it was horrible. My son is 3 and not embarrassed yet by weeing so I don't think so.

squoosh · 21/04/2015 22:34

Park wees and tree wees are absolutely fine. Gutter pees are fine in a pinch but I'd avoid the gutter of a busy high street if possible.

Ledkr · 21/04/2015 22:36

I do this too if dd is desperate, I'd try for the loo first but of not close I dangle her.
I think it's funny that folks are offended and yet dogs piss and shit all over the frigging place.

mistybluebellwoods · 21/04/2015 22:38

I think it's revolting myself - undignified for the child, crass and unpleasant.

There's usually something you can nip behind.

Notcontent · 21/04/2015 22:41

I think it's absolutely fine for small children. I used to carry around one of those portable potties that you put a bag into until dd was about 4, to deal with any emergencies. Unless you are somewhere like a shopping centre it can be pretty hard to find a loo nearby.
