What am I doing wrong?

I drip shower gel on mine to get it foamy and do it in the bath each week to stay on top of it. Theyre never completely smooth but its getting much finer after 10 years or so and no stubble or cuts ever

The best advice I was given was never epilate anything longer than a couple of mm. If in doubt, shave and then epilate a few days later so that the hair is really short. I find there is minimal pain but agree I am not super smooth. It does last for ages though and I am starting to get a few bald bits. I have tried home IPL (with the Boots SmoothSkin) but didnt really get very far despite having white skin and very dark hair. I'm usually a shave-in-the-morning-have-stubble-by-evening girl and have only been epilating a few months but am a total convert.

The epilator does get rid of the hair well but it doesn't leave me with smooth legs because of the pimples and ingrowing hairs. This seems much worse with an epilator than with waxing, Why would that be?

I've been waxing or epilating for 30 years now, so very little pain these days. The epilator is cheap and convenient but I'm thinking I need to return to waxing. Can't shave, it will undo 30 years work!

I love the idea of the IPL think, but I have very fine very blonde hair (and loads of it) so I don't think it's for me.

I'm a bit gutted that none of you have been able to say, "Oh OP, you're doing it all wrong! Do it like THIS. Voila!" Grin

Hi everyone I'm new to Mumsnet! I've recently invested in a Smoothskin Gold IPL home machine thing. Impressed with the results so far but have got spots under my arms only on one side. Has anyone else had this from an IPL machine? Should I continue? Be interested to hear people's views. Thanks in advance.
