Bound to be!

Not everyone on MN this afternoon will have read this thread, and without context what did you expect people would make of it?

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 16:30

oh woe!

"I sincerely hope nothing bad happens to your children and you don't end up dealing with ss" in response to a poster stating that their NT under 16 year old is happy with and capable of going to the toilet unsupervised playing out/ walking to school/ being home for a short period without an adult within arms length, is a pleasant one because it reads as a PA hope for exactly the opposite...

kali110 · 19/04/2015 17:22

What does hth mean??

Sparklingbrook · 19/04/2015 17:24

'Hope this helps' Kali. On MN it's used as a 'FFS' type term. I got an email from DS1's maths teacher with that on the bottom. I was all offended til I remembered it was RL and she was being helpful!

TenerifeSea · 19/04/2015 18:20

I've used HTH in a non sarcastic way before but it's since been ingrained in me that it's rude, so I avoid it now.

I have said "you sound nice/lovely" and meant it genuinely but I'm now I'm wondering if people think I was being a cow bag. Grin

Tenerife I think it's on par with "good for you" as a response. It sounds sarcastic even if you don't want it to

MehsMum · 19/04/2015 19:05

Maybe we could just use for 'FFS'; sort of one down from awarding a Biscuit but one up from 'head=>desk'

I'm sure I saw someone being handed a grip on a thread the other day.

MrTumble, I hung about that thread for a long time but eventually concluded that it was impossible for reason with some people.

MehsMum · 19/04/2015 19:06

to reason with

Nayville · 19/04/2015 19:16

Can I ask, why is a biscuit offered to people sometimes? What does the biscuit mean?

OH does it mean when something "takes the biscuit"

Nayville · 19/04/2015 19:17

The other night someone was asked to get a grip, and the poster said her piece and handed the grip back Grin

BIWI · 19/04/2015 19:17

Biscuit means 'no comment' (officially)

Unofficially it's a very passive aggressive way of saying 'fuck off you twat'

HTH

I see! I've learned two new things about this site today Smile

HTH totally comes across like a middle finger ha!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/04/2015 19:54

I think we should have a snarling dog emoticon. Everywhere I look today people are going at each other. We could just use this instead.

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 20:08

oh that thread went while I was out.

THAT WAS SO FUNNY

OP posts:
OinkBalloon · 19/04/2015 20:17

I remember way back (when this was all fields round here) HTH was sincerely meant.

When did it change?Sad

HoneyDragon · 19/04/2015 20:25

I like the passing thread for calling an op bonkers as Conkers.

Still made the point but in a nice hair ruffley way.

This thread has reminded me I've not whinged about the biscuit this year at all

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 20:31

you cant call anyone a loon either

OP posts:
Trills · 19/04/2015 20:31

IMHO is one that pisses me off.

I imagine a massive stress on the H.

In my humble opinion -- AKA "Listen to me I know I am right".

No - if you were actually humble you wouldn't need to say it.

It's like "polite notice".

Politeness and humbleness shoudn't need to be pointed out.

Trills · 19/04/2015 20:31

I only ever use HTH as

I have said something massively unhelpful and I know it but I don't care

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 20:34

i love HTH
and i love let me google that for you
