Note to Jeremy Clarkson

Note to Jeremy Clarkson - I have just checked with my husband who was diagnosed with cancer age 27 and told he had a 50/50 chance of living if he had ever punched someone in the face because of this. The answer was no.

I asked him again if following the operation and subsequent treatment which left him unable to walk long distances or up and down stairs, surf, run or do most of the physical things that he loved so much had ever made him want to punch someone in the face. He said no.

I then asked him if the subsequent stays in hospital due to infection and ongoing treatment now, 8 years later plus the disfigurement of his leg from where a tumour the size if a rugby ball was removed have ever made him even think about punching someone in the face. Again the answer was no.

I finally asked him if having to go through and pay for fertility treatment for a longed for child because of his cancer has made him ever want to punch someone in the face. I'm sure you can guess the answer.

So Jeremy, please think twice before using cancer as an excuse for your boorish, loutish behaviour.

There are people all over the world suffering from a cancer diagnosis who have never even considered punching someone in the face over a cold meat platter. Man up.

Everyone reacts differently.

I've had patients tried to attack me because I've had to tell them they'll never walk again.

Getting shocking news can change you, it can make you experience feelings you've never had, make you unable to control feelings you have been able to quell, make you act in unpredictable and volatile ways.

Well done on all you who manage to control yourselves in times of extreme stress but not everyone can and to judge someone for it is sad frankly.

So many people on here seem to hate clarkson and use any chance to have a go at him.

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 19/04/2015 15:28

I don't 'hate' him, I just don't like people who think they can say or do as they please, without apology or redemption. I feel exactly the same about Katie Hopkins, I felt the same about Cheyl Cole, who never apologised for assaulting a woman. People in the public eye have a responsibility to show decent behavior, especially those who have a younger, more influential fan base, such as Clarkson.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 19/04/2015 15:32

I know just.

Anyone would think he'd make racist/sexist/homophobic/disablist comments wouldn't they?

Oh, hold on a minute....here's one that was made earlier....

PS I didn't hate him. But then I didn't know about the "special needs" comment before.

DameCatrionaSnidelyGoads · 19/04/2015 16:36

I think anyone who's had a cancer scare/misdiagnosis deserves a modicum of sympathy (having had one myself)

Even if they are casually racist manchildren with a tendency to physically assaulting the lower orders.

Even if he had used the cancer scare as excuse, I don't think it would saved his old job.

Capricorn76 · 19/04/2015 17:54

Seriously I don't believe he had a cancer 'scare' wtf does that mean anyway? Tonight I will get pissed, assault an 'inferior' and blame it on an AIDS scare and see how man people defend me! Sorry if this posted twice it looked like it deleted the first time.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/04/2015 17:57

Really?
I do.
He's got an atrocious lifestyle. He's a walking heart attack/stroke/tumour.

squoosh · 19/04/2015 18:00

BishopBrennansArse just wanted to say that your username makes me giggle. Watched that episode last night, still hilarious!

hazeyjane · 19/04/2015 18:08

What type of doctor, especially the type of doctor that he could pay for, tells you you've 'probably got cancer'? I'll tell you, none.

This is MN at its worst.
Celebrities have affairs/leave partners all the time
People punch people every week and are dealt with under the law
Journalists write stuff.
None of it matters. There really are more important things.

No-one is defending JC
He has been punished
To go on about his being a white man - as if it a bad thing and not something "we" want any more is racist.
It is hysterical and we should be better than that.

I dont hate the guy, I don't want him strung up in public. I think he should be more respectful of people who have gone through shit times and possibly be a little more humble about his reasoning for punching someone in the face e.g., 'sorry, I was being a twat'.

That's the point I was making...

Saying that someone white, is erm white isn't racist.
Saying that a man is, erm, a man isn't sexist.
Saying that someone is middle-class, isn't classist.

Using any of these word as a term of denigration certainly is.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/04/2015 18:38

Grin squoosh
Unfortunately my preferred option of ThatWouldBeAnEcumenicalMatter didn't fit.

SuburbanRhonda · 19/04/2015 19:11

Perhaps if he were to keep his mouth shut, the matter would indeed die down.

But he persists in putting himself and his private business in the public domain, so this is all down to him, I'm afraid.
