To want to snigger every time I hear the phrase making love

Pertinent information ....

I'm an actual grown up and have been for several decades.

I don't snigger when I hear "fancy a shag/fuck/quickly or anything like that it's just when it's making love.

And I cannot say it without snorting

So AIBU?

Awful phrase; makes my toes curl, and not in the good way. Grin

I think it's because it's a phrase my parents would use, which puts it completely in "ew" territory.

RusticBlush · 18/04/2015 20:56

It reminds me of (in younger days) when you're abroad on holiday and you get the local lotharios wanting to 'make a love to you' ha ha ha Shock

mrsdavidbowie · 18/04/2015 20:58

rusticblush it's because they can't sing "I want to fuck the arse off you"
No air play.Smile

RusticBlush · 18/04/2015 20:58

Ha!! Grin

lucycant · 18/04/2015 21:00

I like the phrase making love.

TheoriginalLEM · 18/04/2015 21:02

It doesn't make me giggle or snigger, it makes my toes curl - and not in a good way!

TheFirstOfHerName · 18/04/2015 21:04

TheoriginalLEM : great minds... Smile

stevienickstophat · 18/04/2015 21:06

It's very Keith Barron.

Purplepixiedust · 18/04/2015 21:11

Do people actually say 'shag' in real life. Would sound worse if the friend said 'when me and DP had a shag..' instead of 'made love' (which I agree is cringeworthy). Not sure what I would prefer.. Oh wait, I don't talk about my sex life with my friends.

GnomeDePlume · 18/04/2015 21:26

Purplepixiedust that made me chuckle and I agree

Disneyfan1995 · 18/04/2015 21:29

YANBU I'm so glad I'm not the only who finds that phrase icky!

TheJiminyConjecture · 18/04/2015 21:34

I always imagine that the kind of man who wants to "make love" would be shit at it. Can't prove my theory as that would entail actually shagging one of those drippy men!

FenellaFellorick · 18/04/2015 21:37

Me too. Makes my toes curl and not in a good way!
I am completely unable to say it in a normal voice. It's too clingy.
I can't help but put on some terrible accent and say making luuuurve
with a bit of a sneer too.

It's just too mills & boon.

FenellaFellorick · 18/04/2015 21:38

Cringy.
My phone recorrects my correcting of its autocorrect.
How rude.

Mintyy · 18/04/2015 21:40

The only time it is acceptable is in the magnificent "Islands In The Stream" duet by Dolly and Kenny Rogers.

TheChandler · 18/04/2015 21:42

It is a ridiculous expression!

RusticBlush · 18/04/2015 21:42

minty are you my friend? She adores that song Grin

LividofLondinium · 18/04/2015 21:43

Can't stand it, it's so...I don't know...just bleurgh! I was once asked if I wanted "to make a little love". Funny enough it made me feel quite a bit less like "making love" than I did a minute before he said it. He was also the sort of bloke that would say "panties" Hmm Euw!

EddieStobbart · 18/04/2015 21:43

If making love makes your toes curl then you really need to be taking those tights off...

Yellowbird54321 · 18/04/2015 21:45

Grin at Keith Barron!

BreakfastAtStephanies · 18/04/2015 21:48

YANBU. I don't like it.
Hey, does anyone remember " bonking " ? I think it's even worse. You don't hear it now. Described in Four Weddings And A Funeral as " ping pong, but with smaller balls " Smile ( I think, memory going rapidly)

MrsHenryCrawford · 18/04/2015 21:50

Can't stomach the phrase. I call shagging or riding

goodnessgraciousgouda · 18/04/2015 21:52

Why can't people just say sex?

It's not twee, like "making love" (as if love is some kind of cake), it's not coarse, like "fucking", and it's not plain sickening like "baby dancing"

CaptainAnkles · 18/04/2015 21:54

It's up there in the list of things that would irrevocably ruin the mood if someone said it whilst they were trying to be all seductive.

RusticBlush · 18/04/2015 21:55

'Panties' haha I'm in fits of laughter here
I'd just Blush if my dh ever said that Grin
