I'm an actual grown up and have been for several decades.

I don't snigger when I hear "fancy a shag/fuck/quickly or anything like that it's just when it's making love.

And I cannot say it without snorting

Awful phrase; makes my toes curl, and not in the good way.

I think it's because it's a phrase my parents would use, which puts it completely in "ew" territory.

It reminds me of (in younger days) when you're abroad on holiday and you get the local lotharios wanting to 'make a love to you' ha ha ha

Do people actually say 'shag' in real life. Would sound worse if the friend said 'when me and DP had a shag..' instead of 'made love' (which I agree is cringeworthy). Not sure what I would prefer.. Oh wait, I don't talk about my sex life with my friends.

It's not twee, like "making love" (as if love is some kind of cake), it's not coarse, like "fucking", and it's not plain sickening like "baby dancing"
