Nanny payroll services

TaxNanny has twice sent through the wrong payroll for my PA (who is also our nanny, hence using Tax Nanny), currently on Mat Leave. She is receiving her full salary from us for 8 weeks, and they seem to be incapable of processing this. I sent them an email asking them to change, got a snotty email back saying it was correct. My reply is below:

No, the payroll is NOT correct.

The amount of SMP due to her is actually irrelevant to the question. Ms X is due her full salary from me. What I recover via SMP is different, but she is due her full salary.

I don’t understand why this is such an issue for you. The March payroll was just fine. My husband has also had an issue with this. [He pays the nanny portion of her salary.] Please revert with a CORRECT payroll for the FULL amount of her salary. How that is made up between SMP and non-SMP is, to be frank, of little importance. The important thing is that, as I informed you, she is being paid her full salary for this month and as a new mother it is important that this is done.

Many thanks

I then got a call saying they were terminating my contract for being unreasonable.... Am I? Or should I expect a service I pay for to get things right?

And does anyone have any suggestions for a payroll service?

We've removed it for you now Peg!

Don't think YABU. It seems that you have sent clear instructions to the payroll service which they have chosen to disregard (presumably as it has proved too complicated for the processor to subtract the SMP element from the net pay).

Sorry I can't recommend any other service, but I really don't think the issue lies with you.

Doing a payroll for one person is pretty easy to do yourself - HMRC have free software available and run one day courses for this sort of thing. It might be a bit more tricky now that the pension regs have changed, but shouldn't be too much if a task.

Bailey101 - thanks SO much for the note. HMRC here I go :-)

try payefornannies, I use them - they are great and much cheaper than nannytax which is the one everyone has heard of.

We used Payefornannies and they were great. However I do think your email could have been less aggressively worded so I'm not surprised they terminated the contract. If they didn't follow clear instructions anyway then you are clearly best shot of then in any event.
