To Judge The Daylights Out Of DP?

I'm judging his food tastes. He's judging mine.

We had salad for tea last week (I'm eating salad now and it's reminded me) and I think salad is great for all the nibbly bits you add on: tomatoes, onions, pickled onions, sweetcorn, beetroot, peppers, mushrooms, carrot, coleslaw, mayo, etc.

Dp reckons it's just lettuce. With mayo. Thassit.

He says I'M the wrong one.

This is just the tip of the foody iceberg. He doesn't like the texture of onions, so I have to blend pasta sauces.

And he eats round food he doesn't like, and leaves it in a little pile.

And he doesn't understand the appeal of coffee or olives, as they're "too strong"

My heart loves him, my stomach says LTB.

Lettuce it was my first attempt at making it today and didn't come out quite as good as my friend's. I used cooked and cooled quinoa, desiccated coconut, chopped mango and some raisins that I had plumped up with water. Couldn't decide what to dress it with as I have no lemons or limes, and I need the honey for something else, so I added a sprinkling of paprika.

I plan to get a proper recipe, if such a thing exists, and keep trying, I think fresh coconut would be nicer if it wasn't so bloody expensive

PuntasticUsername · 15/04/2015 22:48

For some reason, I once decided to try a Wholefoods salad. It contained raw cauliflower florets, green lentils and blueberries. It was not nice.

And I paid good money for it. What the fuck was I thinking? I bet it was the "let's see what we can persuade the crazy mad fools to buy today" item and I fucking BOUGHT it. I hate myself a bit now.

Meh. I'm married to a vegetarian. You work round it.

My DP eats mayonnaise...out of the jar on a big spoon. It's hideous to watch.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 16/04/2015 04:38

HellKitty... that is DISGUSTING! I actually gagged reading that!

Fuck lettuce. Bitter, rancid stuff. I like those little bags of spinach, rocket and watercress you can get.

DP was a massively fussy eater when I met him, to the point of it being bloody infuriating. I took great pleasure in hiding things like blue cheese and anchovies in blended sauces. He's better now Wink

Salad is anuthing broadly veg-based (apples also count) chopped up in a big bowl. There has to be at least a few leaves, torn small, and a vinaigrette. Avocado, small bits of decent cheese, and nuts or sunflower seeds are acceptable additions.

The one that really baffles me is German "meat salad" which appears to be chopped-up meat (ham?) mixed up into huge amounts of mayo. That? Is not a salad.

Apples or any other fruit have no business in a salad (yes sultanas I am looking at you). Making me furious just thinking about it Angry

The perfect salad is:

Leaves
olives
avocado
chopped tomato and cucumber (small amount)
few seeds
Haloumi (grilled) or maybe feta
Poss a few shavings of parmesan
Poss some grilled or griddled vegetables like mushrooms, courgettes, aubergine in a little oil
spoonful of oily dressing to coat, not soak/drown the salad (NOT salad cream or mayo)

Ginmartini · 16/04/2015 05:42

And all of you who think sweetcorn has any place in a salad are bad people.

angeltulips · 16/04/2015 05:57

I can't even imagine a grown man making a "salad" that consists of lettuce + Mayo. Ha ha!

My favourite salads are:

  • mixed leaves (spinach rocket watercress), tomato wedges, cucumber, avocado, horseradish thinly sliced, mozarella topped with olive oil & a dash of balsamic and sea salt flakes
  • beetroot, feta, (small amount of) red onion, spinach, cherry tomatoes, cooked courgette, fresh mint, squeeze of lime or lemon juice and a dash of Apple cider vinegar (can add a little bit of barley or quinoa to bulk up if nec too)
  • rocket, wild rice, small chunks of cooked ham, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan shavings, squeeze of lemon juice

Hungry now!

I'm not generally a fan of fruit mixed in with savoury food, but one of my fave salads is baby leaf watercress, spinach & rocket with thinly sliced red onion, avocado & mango with lots of lime juice & black pepper - delicious with Cajun chicken & sweet potato wedges.

I love Viper's laconic description of a certain type of cuisine as You weren't supposed to like it...

fulltothebrim · 16/04/2015 12:01

mmmm- fruit and savoury are some of my favourite tastes.

Swordfish with mango and coconut, fresh mackerel with goosberry, smoked venison and loganberry jelly.
Or an amazing baby pineapple smothered in fish sauce, garlic, chilli, dried shrimp and cane sugar dipping sauce.

queeneileen · 16/04/2015 17:23

Yeah, he won't eat potato salad. Makes him vom
