I'm not really a big eater in the morning, but something I do eat on occasion are pain au chocolat. I've had them 2 days in a row along with some fruit juice.

DH this morning says that they are not a breakfast item as they have chocolate in them. AIBU to kill him and eat my damn chocolatey goodness Grin

YANBU. I often get them. Midweek they encourage my DC out of bed. Europeans are always scoffing cakes and things for brekky. We're European!

meglet · 14/04/2015 08:54

yanbu.

In this house homemade banana and choc muffins are a breakfast item.

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2015 08:54

They are in this house. According to MN I expect we will be told otherwise though.
All food groups to be represented at breakfast. Wink

User100 · 14/04/2015 08:54

They clearly are (although probably not the healthiest breakfast to have regularly).

TheWindsOfWinter · 14/04/2015 08:54

Thank you! Grin

Of course its a breakfast item! Enjoy op....

soundsystem · 14/04/2015 08:54

They are definitely a breakfast item! To the extent that I would consider eating one in the afternoon a bit odd

TheWindsOfWinter · 14/04/2015 08:55

DH has them for pudding Hmm Grin

Pain au chocolate, much like an almond croissant or a cinnamon danish, are all breakfast items. Does that mean all those awful cereals with chocolate in are designed for another time of day? Is there a specific cutoff when chocolate becomes acceptable? Eat the chocolatey goodness.

dashoflime · 14/04/2015 08:56

YANBU Definately a breakfast item. The other brilliant French chocolate based breakfast is a massive mug of hot choc to dip bread and butter into
Lush. Even the British have cocopops for petes sake!

BertieBotts · 14/04/2015 08:56

Of course they are! DM always used to give them to us for pudding too, though. Now I believe she was just Englishly confused :o

Ooothatsnice · 14/04/2015 08:57

Ooo how continental...
I love them and not just for breakfast Grin

TheWindsOfWinter · 14/04/2015 08:58

hands round pain au chocolat Brew Thanks

cocopops are an accepted breakfast cereal aren't they? Aren't they chocolatey?

I'm in Lyon. Pain au chocolat for breakfast here is par of the course.

Oh yes. Unequivocally a breakfast food.

My local Tesco has them in the 'Morning Goods' aisle, along with English muffins, American pancakes, and waffles.

Breakfast, for sure Grin.

flowery · 14/04/2015 09:04

I can't imagine eating them any other time tbh.

Plus Coco pops are chocolate, as everyone has said.

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 14/04/2015 09:06

Of course they are!
Here in France people buy pains au chocolat for breakfast, or sometimes for the children's goûter.

(Hi goodnessgraciousgouda! I am not far from you - If I could drive I would have taken the DCs to the Parc de la Tête d'Or today)

littlehouseinthebigwoods · 14/04/2015 09:06

Oh man, wish I had some in the cupboard...

thehumanjam · 14/04/2015 09:10

They most definitely are breakfast and are eaten at breakfast in school holidays here. We also eat brioche and croissants with Nutella too. Very calorific and probably not the most nutritious start to the day.

MrsTedCrilly · 14/04/2015 09:12

Oh yes they are perfectly acceptable Wink Why does he think chocolate isn't a morning food?

LarrytheCucumber · 14/04/2015 09:14

Confused I thought they were a breakfast item (from my one visit to Paris) and it hadn't occurred to me to eat them at any other time.

SaucyJack · 14/04/2015 09:17

They are a Sunday breakfast item here.

No chocolate on schooldays.

yomellamoHelly · 14/04/2015 09:18

Definitely. Still remember my french exchange aged 12 / 13? with a massive mug of hot chocolate and a pain au chocolat to kick-start the day. (Though never adapted to dunking it in the hot chocolate as they all did.) Really nice way to begin imo.
