To think I shouldn't be charged for a fault on my property by Talk Talk?

Hi everyone. First time poster in this section
Had a fault with my telephone line and internet back at the beginning of February, I contacted Talk Talk who said that they would run a 'systems check" and they claimed that my internet and telephone line was fine, yet the fault was still persistent so we contacted them again, they said that they would send out an engineer to check the phone and broadband line at our home and that if there was a fault at our home to do with our cabling in the house that we would be charged £65, they said though if it was anything to do with the line outside the house which goes to the exchange or any fault at the exchange that we would not be charged £65. The engineer came he found no fault at our end with our cabling and that the fault was at the exchange and there for we would not be charged because as we were told that any fault to do with the line outside the home is covered by our line rental, BT open reach came and addressed the issue, however recently we got our bill and we HAVE been charged the £65 and we were told and reassured by Talk Talk and the engineer that we would not have to pay.
AIBU to think that I shouldn't have been charged when we were told that we wouldnt be and they wont refund us with the £65?

No you aren't. We are finding TalkTalk truly rubbish at the moment.

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 15:41

We're sorely tempted to switch over to BT, Talk Talk are atrocious.

Never ever ever go with bt unless you want hell. Tbh the best one is plusnet (owned by bt)

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 15:45

What are Plusnet like, Londonroch?

Talk Talk kept sending me debt collection letters recently, when they owed us a refund! It took months and months to sort out, though we have finally got the money now.

They're rubbish.

LittleMissRayofHope · 12/04/2015 15:47

YABU - for expecting anything good or sensible from talk talk. I say that as a talk talk customer myself.
They are appalling.
They did the same thing to me. Then claimed they were unable to remove the charge as 'once it's on your bill it has to be paid'.
Ended up being escalated to the CEO's office and I got £50 credit for all the hassle and 6 months free line rental.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 12/04/2015 15:50

Not even the CEO's office have been able to close down my account despite having 2 goes at doing so. TalkTalk are a bunch of inept fools.

Kampeki · 12/04/2015 15:54

It took months for the CEO's office to sort out our issue, even after they had agreed in writing that they would give us a refund.

They continued to send us demanding letters and passed our details onto a debt collection agency. The CEO's office repeatedly ignored e-mails, phone calls, voice messages etc. I have never seen such an incompetent and non-customer focused company.

Kampeki · 12/04/2015 15:54

We are with Virgin now. :)

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 15:56

I'm glad we aren't the only customers having problems, DH is fed up of speaking to their call centre staff and their "higher up" staff members whom of which are equally as useless as the call centre staff.

Plusnet after my 6 months of bt hell has been amazing. Instead of telephning bt 3 times a day to try and get online and speaking to some poor indian guy the rare time i need to phone i talk to someobe with a yorkshire accent. Tbh i think in the 3 years ive been with them ive only needed to talk 4 times, 3 of those were to renew the contract and the other when my wifi didnt work. I go through and a nice yorkshire man apologied and said aware could i leave it for 30 mins and try again. I did the washing up, put some washing on, then phoned their free phone number to find a message saying we really sorry but we working on it and will get the wifi on asap. Wifi came on again after about an hour. In three years thats the only time its been off that ive noticed! Their customer service is amazing and you can contact by email or phone.... Google them they get good feedback

KateSpade · 12/04/2015 15:58

We have talk talk at home & everyone agrees it's awful! Takes ages for any device to connect, where as wifi at work connects instantly!

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 16:00

We have 6 months left on our contract, we will defiantly look at Plusnet then!

Disclaimer..i dont work for plusnet, just a happy customer. Im sure you find some people who arent happy with them but in my three years theyve been the best. As mentioned before i hate bt and even if the internet was free or you paid me i wouldnt go with them. Parents had problems with talk talk to. Think they with orange now and not too happy with them. Shop around in 6 months as alot can change in that time!

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 16:07

We will take note of that

Plus i love the yorkshire accent and the fact when you phone you told how long you would be waiting or the number you are. Really sorry cant remember which one as its been so long since i needed to phone them as everything works. Ishould phone them as they so lovely the guys! We pay £23 per month for unlimited internet and free phone calls as long as under 1 hour. You just hang up and recall if near the hour and that 24/7. Again things change so prices be different in 6 months. Yiu do pay extra for mobile phone calls and those 0870 numbers...

londonrach · 12/04/2015 16:11

Also includes line rental..

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 16:16

Sounds good!

Ah Kamp that sounds familiar! I am on my second go round with the debt collector company. TalkTalk called them off and closed my account on the second try from the CEO's office. Except they haven't managed to close it and they keep trying to charge me for a number they don't even operate. They keep 'suspending' my service. You'd think they'd notice that they don't have that number. I have everything in writing and have spent hours on it. I haven't been a customer for over 7 months and they don't even have my address!

Dowser · 12/04/2015 16:55

They wer egret for my first year. Second year ( must have expanded too fast ) and became rubbish.

Been with bt now for about 3 years.

No probs.

RedRugNoniMouldiesEtc · 12/04/2015 16:56

Oh I remember the hell we went through when they transferred my phone and broadband without any request from me! It was great, very obviously someone had put in a wrong phone number when someone asked to transfer so they had my number but someone else's name and address - yep, they wouldn't talk to me because it wasn't my name on the account Grin I can laugh now but it was farcical. It was slightly better for us because we had services we weren't being billed for. I felt awful for the poor lady who should have had the transfer - she was being billed for my calls and had nothing! It was sorted in the end thank goodness. Although the company I was contracted to wanted early closure penalties paying which talk talk refused to pay - luckily my original company eventually agreed to waive them as it wasn't my fault - again I felt bad as it wasn't their fault either Angry

Prior to this I had been contemplating transferring to them Grin

Elliptic5 · 12/04/2015 17:06

I see Talk Talk haven't improved since I left them 3 years ago after 3 months with no Internet, and I remember the joys of talking to their call centre staff and their call centre 'supervisors'.
Missingsleep you have my utmost sympathy Wine Flowers.

EscapePea · 12/04/2015 17:49

Avoid TalkTalk if you value your sanity. I ended up having to go to the Ombudsman to get my money back and compensation for the many months of hassle after they repeatedly direct-debited money from my account despite not having received any service from them (line problem meant they couldn't connect me). They were/are linked to Carphone Warehouse, with which I had my mobile contract, and this was how they got my bank details. It still enrages me, years later!

Missingsleepandthecat · 12/04/2015 18:26

Elliptic5 thanks for the Wine and Flowers they also left us for a while back in October without internet, didnt help that I was in hospital having an op done either.

EscapePea we've been with them since they were branded Tiscali, I can't wait to be free from them!
