OK....my first MN post so please bear with....night out at family friends house with DH, teenage DS and DD in tow. DD was working so DH was driving and not drinking. Me=couple of wines Smile he picks up DD, couple of hours socialising then home time. DD climbs in passenger seat. I asked to sit in, she not happy and not happy to move into back. Says she called 'shotgun'!!! AIBU?! Am 5 weeks off anti depressants and feeling super sensitive as it is. Had an hour of DH and SIL questioning/ discussing merits of me working pt whilst she 'manages to do everything so can't see why you can't ' type of conversation so wasn't feeling great as it wasSad thank you MN xxxxThanks

I hated the eldest stunt ..... my DC take turns and rotate if DH in the car the all sit in the back and resume turn on the next trip. Fair and easy. Those who pinch a turn have sat in the back all week.

Under 12 they should be on a booster seat or car seat according to UK legislation and are safest in the back as more at risk from air bags than larger heavier people. letting the oldest child sit in the front isn't being mean it's being safe if the younger ones are under 12. If they're all under 12 I'd consider having the passenger seat empty especially if they aren't on booster seats.

Adults in the front- always. If there are more than two adults I tend to go in the back because i am very short and never car sick. But always adults in the front.

What a lot seem to be missing, from the OP, is that the dd was working - so we can assume over 16, and in all probability the same size/weight/height as her parents - this isn't about if little people should go in the front, so all the points about lighter people going in the back aren't relevant for the OP's question.

BadRoly - it does though, if you are a younger sibling Wink

The elderly/tall/large/pregnant passengers etc in the front makes sense for those with a 2/3-door car, so they don't have to clamber in and out of the back seats.

BackforGood OP here.....daughter 17(and 1/2). Shorter than me. Weights about 2 stone less than me. Doesn't pay for fuel, tax, mot, insurance, etc. Me and Dh do. just think poor manners and thought she should have had more respect. That's all really. wasn't a big issue, just pissed me off and wondered if I was being unreasonable (after a couple of glasses of Wine .....maybe I should have drank more, then I might not have noticed....and if I had, I wouldn't have cared by then Grin ).

thank you one and all for sharing thoughts. my first experience of posting and wasn't too bad after all [grSmile

Definitely adults in the front. The only time I've sat in the front with my mum in the back I was heavily pregnant and couldn't get into the back. I was 32. It still felt wrong.
