To ask people to shut up during the opening credits of a film

Just went to see a film and two women were on their phones and carried on talking during the opening credits. I had brought friends to the film and their talking was very distracting. They did carry on talking through the film quietly, why bother going to the cinema if they are going to talk.

YANBU. If they want to chat they should watch a DVD at home instead.

HappySpills · 11/04/2015 19:17

YANBU, but then I am an extremist and would really rather like it if people sat quietly through the end credits too Grin

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 19:22

I never go to the cinema any more, People just can't behave themselves. Sad

littlebillie · 11/04/2015 19:26

I love the cinema if people want to talk why not do it over coffee, I want to watch the ads everything immersed without the constant chatter of others! I felt really awkward asking them and they kept glaring at me.

YANBU The cinema costs so much, you'd expect people to keep quiet and make the most of it! People eating food noisily and getting up during the closing credits annoys me too. If I've enjoyed a film I want to listen to all the music while the credits roll and soak up the atmosphere. That's why I only go about once a year!

CaptainAnkles · 11/04/2015 19:51

Talking during the trailers or opening and closing credits wouldn't bother me in the slightest, those bits aren't what I've paid to watch. Talking during the film is crappy behaviour though.

OneInAMillionYou · 11/04/2015 20:03

I am with Sparkling. I never go to the cinema any more for just this reason. Standards of consideration and public behaviour seem to have disappeared.
I wait for the DVD or Sky Movies, better value too :-)

annielouise · 11/04/2015 20:21

Haven't been to the cinema in years because of this. Don't miss it one bit.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 20:33

People talking, mucking about with phones, eating noisily and rustling packets, getting up to the loo a bajillion times, or virtually having sex. I don't know what anyone would willingly pay £££s to watch a film at the cinema with all that going on.

Plus, THE VOLUME IS ALWAYS WAY TOO LOUD. [ANGRY]

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 20:34

Angry even. Angry

strawberrie · 11/04/2015 20:36

I would totally have shushed them. And I have done in theatre, to a gaggle of chatty women during the overture of Wicked.

FuckingLiability · 11/04/2015 20:39

I have regularly told people to shut up in the cinema, much to DH's embarrassment. One of the reasons I rarely go to the cinema these days is because of all the cunts chatting/texting/checking their phone every two minutes.

The last time it happened, there were a bunch of teens shouting and laughing. I asked them to be quiet and they started throwing stuff at us so I went to complain. Turned out they were mates of one of the ushers who had allowed them into the VIP seats FOC because it was quiet.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 20:41

Is this a new thing being able to hear what the audience are saying?

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2015 20:41

Sorry wrong thread. BGT. Grin

StickledPink · 11/04/2015 20:49

Don't go to the cinema for all of the reasons Sparklingbrook has said.

Can't bare it. Also, I'm a bit funny who I watch films with in the comfort of my own home too. My FIL drives me fucking nuts. Just when you watch the very beginning of the film, so he decides to tell you the end ( he's seen most films and is a bit of an obsessive film watcher). It makes me fume. Not only that, but he'll give you an analysis and running commentary most of the way through the entire film.

We don't have him over to watch films anymore!

DaveMinion · 11/04/2015 21:00

YANBU! I was at the cinema last night. Couple next to me shushed another group at the beginning of the film then continued chatting all the way through! Really grinds my gears.
