You know how your perceptions change as you grow up about some programmes, well, it's not as corny as I thought it would be!

I just finished the first season and have started watching the first episode of the second and am really enjoying it. Some laugh out loud moments, hilarious one liners remind me of why I enjoyed it so much as a teenager!

I think buffy was a really good role model and (aside from the vampire slaying!) I really felt I could relate to her.

I think joss whedon was a genius.

I love it. I have the CD of Once More With Feeling in my car. DD1 plays it on the piano. She owns Buffy and Firefly t-shirts. I may have indoctrinated her. (And DD2's best friend was called after a Buffy character which is immensely cool.)

I love and hate Joss Whedon in equal measure. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity are all genius (haven't done Dollhouse yet, am on series 3 of Angel with DD1 for her first time, we'll watch it together). For Numfar's dance alone I could fall at his feet and worship him.

On the other hand he has no qualms about making me sob, frequently. The biggest hangover from Buffy is that whenever a character gets promoted to main cast in the titles in any show, I get anxious. He has made me utterly mistrustful of showrunners everywhere. Damn you, Whedon

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 11/04/2015 14:25

I enjoy the Buffy shows as well. I actually liked Angel better when he was Angelus. Grin And Spike. And Giles when he was Ripper. Grin Oh, my, I can imagine what that says about me. Blush

I did enjoy the season with Dawn being the key - Glory was hilarious. And I did enjoy the last season as well. Adam was a yawn.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 11/04/2015 14:27

I have to admit that when watching Warehouse 13, seeing James Marsters on there, I laughed at the whole "Me? A vampire? God no, that's just teen fiction nonsense" or something like that. Was very funny. Grin Definitely a swipe at Spike.

BigRedBall · 11/04/2015 15:03

Oh I can't wait to share it with dd! She's only 7 so got quite a few years to go. Probably when she's 13/14.

An episode that has stayed with me forever is when buffy's mum dies. That was so incredibly moving and realistic. I lost my mum around the same time and really related to buffy's feelings. I think that episode was done beautifully.

I watched 1 or 2 seasons of Angel but I never got into it for some reason. I'd like to try and watch it again. Yes Alice loved Angel as Angelus Grin...also loved Spike when he was in love with Buffy...omg I'm feeling all teenagerish thinking about those episodes. I really was in love with Spike Grin

Buffy and Faith forever!

StepCatsmother · 11/04/2015 15:14

I've just started re-watching this as well :D

I'm just half way through season 3. It'll stop being re-watching after season 4 as I don't remember ever watching the later seasons.

I'm not getting my hopes up too much though, as I've heard the later seasons aren't as good?

CarpeJugulum · 11/04/2015 15:20

Later seasons are epic. Willow as evil is just amazing. And Caleb... And, and, and...

ElviraCondomine · 11/04/2015 15:24

I agree. Once Adam and Riley are out the way, it gets good again. Willow is superb in the last two series, and and Buffy and Spike's story arc is fascinating. Caleb scares me more than any other Buffy villain because he's human, his evil is very realistic, and Nathan Fillion shouldn't play bad. He's too lovely. And that makes it even worse.

queeneileen · 11/04/2015 15:33

Elvira Dollhouse is bloody brilliant, I wasn't sure watching the first couple of episodes but it's brilliant.

Topher is awesome.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 11/04/2015 15:45

oh yes, Willow being evil was excellent. And Caleb... blast it! Now I'm going to have to rewatch it, and I can't do it during the day as my 2 dcs will be scared senseless.

BigRedBall · 11/04/2015 15:48

Yep yep yep, later seasons are brilliant. Sometimes when they introduce a completely new character in programmes it's ruins everything, but introducing Dawn was an excellent move. And yy at evil willow...and anya and olaf, still laugh thinking about that episode Grin.

Alice I'm doing a few episodes a night in bed. I tried watching one during the day and DD kept peering over my shoulder!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 11/04/2015 16:02

and the episode where she was saying she was in heaven and was ripped out... sad.

WhenMarnieWasThere · 11/04/2015 16:02

I loved Buffy as a teen. And my teen daughter now loves it in return.

I'm currently enjoying watching Grimm as it has a Buffy type vibe, but is more up to date.... well, it tries to be.

FireflyGirl · 11/04/2015 16:25

Nope, not unreasonable at all. I wish there were more series like this (big Whedon fan, as username might suggest Grin). I'm on maternity leave and started re watching whilst feeding.

The episode with her mum was so beautifully written - I bawl every time. Particularly Anya's comments. I'm welling up just thinking about it - disclaimer, I'm still hormonal from pregnancy/giving birth.

Crazycatlady27 · 11/04/2015 19:48

I love Buffy and Angel. I'm meeting the actor who played Lindsay in Angel in 2 weeks, so excited!

TheAssassinsGuild · 11/04/2015 20:45

YANBU. Although I hated Riley and much of the Adam storyline was tiresome (although some individual episodes and the way Spike developed as a character were genius). I generally disliked series 7. I felt there were too many inconsistencies and I felt Anya was very hard done by as a character. Not her death so much, just more the way she was treated and the way she became quite weak.

MitMopse · 11/04/2015 20:51

Not in the slightest, it is awesome. Case closed (bangs gavel)

3isthemajicnumber · 11/04/2015 21:00

Yanbu

I have been re watching during late pg and am halfway through season 6. Dd2 is 4 weeks. I love love love it and it is still as good now even though some episodes I have watched so many times
I hadn't though about watching it with dc's. And now I can't wait.huzzah.

LokiBear · 11/04/2015 21:01

YANBU at all. However, Buffy was not 17 years ago. It isn't possible; that would make me old.

HumphreyCobbler · 11/04/2015 21:04

I too am still sad about what happened to Anya in series seven, both in the whole season and in the final episode. She was my favourite character before.

Andrew in series 7 is brilliant, he is the best bit.

CommanderShepard · 11/04/2015 21:06

I adore it. And not infrequently have very rude dreams involving Oz.

I never got the whole Buffy and Angel thing though... I am team Spuffy. Except for the awful rape bit. Hate that episode. That said, The Body and Hush are two of the best television episodes ever, bar none.

I grew up with it, really, since it finished while I was at uni and it really reminds me of that time in my life and the lessons I learnt. It means more to me as a TV series then any other in ways I can't explain.

dreamingofblueskies · 11/04/2015 21:08

Buffy is THE BEST show ever, such amazing writing and great role models.

I was just saying the other day that I wonder if I would have even watched this if it was released now. I feel it would have been lost amongst all the many many channels and dross that is pumped out nowadays. I hate to think I would have missed out on it!

HumphreyCobbler · 11/04/2015 21:14

I really loved it so much, it was the high spot of my week. Watching week by week in real time seems so strange now! It used to be on BBC2 on a Wednesday, after Star Trek Next Generation

Welshwabbit · 11/04/2015 21:16

I will always love Buffy. It is still the best TV show I have ever seen. I still quote it on a regular basis. Mu default response when I have too much to process is "Fire bad. Tree pretty." I kind of wish I'd not watched it so I could see it all for the first time again.

YANBU. Obviously.
