To not get this checked out sooner

Today I found a small indent on my left breast, to the right of my nipple. It is as if someone has pushed a pea into my breast and it's left a mark. I know I need to get it checked out, however I am out of the country for another 6 weeks. If it turned out to be something serious, will those 6 weeks make such a big difference? I'm half way across the world so don't really want to cut my travels short for something that could be nothing. Would I be unreasonable to just keep an eye on it for the next 6 weeks and get it checked when I get home? Or should I really do something about it sooner?

It doesn't matter where in the world you are you need to get this checked out. There must be medical services where you are so see a doctor and get qualified advice. I have had breast cancer and it needs to be checked but remember most 90% of people who have symptoms get a negative diagnosis good luck!

TwoOddSocks · 11/04/2015 06:36

Yes 6 weeks could be important if you were unlucky, get it checked out wherever you are, there will probably be a walk in clinic somewhere.

PeaceOfWildThings · 11/04/2015 06:39

6 weeks could make ALL the difference in some cases.

gamerwidow · 11/04/2015 06:41

This isn't something that could be left unfortunately. If it was in the worst case scenario breast cancer you don't want to give it the chance to get to your lymph nodes. Hope it turns out to be nothing but get it checked.

Yes I agree.
I had Breast cancer and one of the things that kept me going was knowing Id caught it earky.
It hasn't spread to my glands but was starting to so a few more weeks would have made all the difference.

I don't want to scare you but when my DM had BC this was her first symptom. Luckily she went to the docs straight away and he said she was lucky she came so early.

theFerretDontBite · 11/04/2015 07:45

Thanks for your responses, not what I was hoping to hear, but I guess I should get it checked out soon then. I am on quite a remote island, so getting to a hospital is a bit of a faff, but I'll try to get to one next week. This dent is so small, and it can only really be seen whilst I'm lying down, so I wasn't sure if I was over reacting slightly.

I'd massage the nipple to see if any milk is released first. If it really is a small indentation, it could be that a milk duct has been clogged. If you massage it and milk is released, then the indentation disappears, all good. If it doesn't or it remains, you must get it looked at.

ethelb · 11/04/2015 08:27

Where are you? How much would it cost for testing?

theFerretDontBite · 11/04/2015 13:08

I'm in Thailand, I have no idea how much it will cost. Generally medical stuff is quite cheap compared to England so I'm hoping price won't be an issue. I do have travel health insurance but I don't know if it would cover that (or even how I would find out).

OP posts:
Ledkr · 11/04/2015 15:13

Yes I'd imagine it would be pretty cheap.

caroldecker · 11/04/2015 15:39

Phone the insurance company first to see what is covered.

theFerretDontBite · 11/04/2015 16:26

If I got it checked and they said it was nothing, do I take their word for it or do I insist on tests? If so what tests should I ask for?

Good luck OP, hope it turns out to be nothing. Def get checked out.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2015 16:30

I would thoroughly recommend the Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok. Really wonderful care and definitely world class. Talk to the insurance company about what they cover and what you have to do.

theFerretDontBite · 11/04/2015 16:40

Thanks for the recommendation, although it would be Phuket that I'd go to (Bangkok's a flight away).
